I've had a look at Ep 3 raw.
While I think it's wrong to say that Ep 1 was the early 'best offer' of this series, the OP and first ep really can give you a misleading first impression. I'm sure M4d action will be back, but it's not the only thing this series is good at - Ep 3 had drama that transcends the language barrier. Though I'd still need to get the sub to understand the details, unlike Ep 2 it's very clear what this episode is about. Tiny amount of M4d Action is involved for humour purposes (like in Ep 2), but it's not like Ep 1 with the Super Booster, Self-Destruct Device and Apache Attack Hellicopter.
This series is still called Futakoi (Alt) - i.e. Twin Love. Much different theme and style than the first Futakoi I'm sure, but the 'Koi' part is still there. As such, don't expect this to be a 100% Action dosage.
Edit: Saw Ep 4 raw too now:
Those who have missed action, you can get some here. Not as much as Ep 1, but these new twins do look promising in the Combat area. Rentaro ain't bad as a detective either. I think we can expect the first half of the series (up to Ep 7 maybe?) to focus on each of the 6 pairs of twins, this greatly affecting the 'flavour' of the episode. No two episodes have the same feel to them so far.
Ok, so what I'm writing inside the Spoiler tags aren't really spoiler-ish. But I did it in case some people don't want to hear my comments and opinions on what this series might be like as we progress in episodes before they see more themselves.

AnimeYuki just released ep 3
Quite surprising, how they changed the pace 180°... if ep1 got an explosive start, and ep2 got a pretty much almost the same pace as ep1 (due to the confusing timeline)... ep 3 looked almost like somebody just pulled the handbrake on the series...
Not enough humour, almost little to no action, and almost all drama... it was a surprise...
I was a little dissapointed with this, but as the episode progresses I found out that I have judged it a little too early... The style was just beautiful!!! Especially when Ai and Rentarou tried to find the handphone... very beautiful indeed... and it was also touching how they tolg the split of Mai and Ai...
Many loose threads were left hanging, but I guess the creators had left us for our own interpretation... Like:
What is the real cause of Mai and Ai's conflict?
The thing that it was lost between them, is it Rentarou?
Why Ai left the town?
And lastly: Ai's handphone was in the aquarium, maybe she had thrown it in herself... but why??
The storyline was still in a chaotic mess though, with no real signs of where this will head... Thank God, that so far, there is no annoying characters

Seen Ep 3 subbed now:
I'd say Ai threw it in as a sign of 'I'm cutting ties with you, Mai" action. Then she asked Rentarou to help her look in 150 places all over town - in short a date. And I have a suspicision it was Rentarou that was the result of Mai and Ai's conflict - the Emerald Mountain metaphoric 'hallucination' makes me think so.
You know, Sara giving Rentarou that injury at the start of the episode isn't just random slapstick. It's a time indicator, that bandage. They don't bother with the "X years ago" slides in this ep, so you have to watch for the bandage to figure out what's a flashback and what's Present. Heh, I like this non-linearity. Ep 4 is more straightforward though.

yes, I have to agree with that... the story-telling style is the major strength of this anime so far IMHO, even moreso than the cute twins (although they were not far behind )
I hope they will not change the film-style of this anime... very refreshing indeed... but i still dont get it though
Is it because they were too attached to Rentarou? I still dont get what Mai and Ai are fighting over... but it was really touching to see Mai crying, telling Sara and Souyjo "not to lose what we had lost"... and Rentarou, finding out that both of them are still out, went to look after them and hugs them, as if wishing they will not be like Mai and Ai

futakoi alternative is kind of surprising. because the original characters were so delicate and soft. but when it came to this...wow!!it was so full of action ...i liked it...it was soo cool!!
Mai and Ai loved Rentarou and because one expressed their love the other one felt she was out of place and had to leave
get it now?
That is one possibility. But I'm thinking it's more like...
Mai and Ai were new teachers in Rentarou's final High School year. They got on well even to the point where he hugged both of them when they were crying ("3 years ago, I embraced a pair of twins crying" - he did it again a year after that with the Shirogane twins). Mai was getting concerned that they were getting too close for a teacher-student relationship (note her interrogation of Rentarou about sleeping with 2 high school girls at the start of the ep) but Ai took no heed.
One night, for some reason Rentarou was still at school way after everyone had left. He found Ai and the events that took place there became dangerously romantic but never climaxed as Rentarou felt his tobacco-stench breath would be inconsiderate to kiss with. Still, the intent was there and Mai could not let this go. They fought and Ai eventually moved out.
That's my interpretation so far. More may be revealed in future episodes. New inspirations may strike in the future.
I just love how...
They show Mai kicking ass at 2:30 PM and possibly beating up the guy for almost 30 minutes, then after explanations and stuff, has a coffee at 3:30 PM - an hour of awesomeness and cleanup. Best part is, they left it offscreen so as to not disrupt the flow of the episode. They didn't let the Action disrupt the drama storytelling atmosphere.
hmmm im patiently waiting for ep3 and 4 to be subbed by Shi-Fa.
i didn't like ep2 too much... the confusing timeline twist was neat but not appealing to me at all. not much happened either except
his dream about his dad kicking the shiz out of that giant squid
and bumming around do nothing.
it was disappointing i simply loved ep1. ep2 was okay but a bit of a drag down. i hope the upcoming FA will be as "FLCL" as stylish as the first episode.

I'm really liking this series now, I payed it out heaps bad some time back. Storyline hasn't been developed that well yet so... I dunno, not much to say. Hope it will end better than FLCL. _________________ [IMG:630:120:ffc1e5676f]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/toolowhobo/parassig.gif[/img:ffc1e5676f]
I must say that the second season does have something weird going on in the background. All three episodes are totally different from each other. The first was all action packed and drew in the audience. The second was basically an episode to get to know the main character. Then the third episode was about a love story of the past. I hope something comes together so I can understand the series. It would be too weird if they just had episodes that were totally unrelated to each other. _________________
I like bananas...
I think that the differences are probably due to different directors; the first episode had a completely different pacing and feel to it than the second, and the third as well.
Nevertheless this is an excellent show.
