I don't think that ending is unique whatsoever ... It's just that I believe the ending Manaka x Toujo more than any other but Manaka x Nishino is also in one of my expectations ... I even thought of the ending when Manaka got dumped by all the 3 girls xD ... and the ending when he got all the 3 girls... xP So yeah, it didn't surprise me a bit
I don't know which one he liked better during the time when he was in high school but I don't think he liked Toujo any less than Nishino ... it could be the other way around but then again... I'm not so sure.
Althought I wanted for Manaka to pick Toujo, Im still satisfied with him picking Nishino as they got together first and the relationship built. They survived through many hardships and even broke up once. I thought the manga really showed how people mature and how once we are done with the tears, we move on, onward toward the future.
Overall, it was a great manga that was on par with I's (for me).
The ending went as I have wanted... kinda... but between after N. and M. separated and the ending, there should have been something!! come on! there at least must be some girls after him in college! could have been more intresting.. or boring maybe...

I noticed something.
Look at Volume 9, Chap 76, Page 17
Toujo looks like shes wearing a wig! The hair is a bit off, it looks like its tilted to the side!
XD
Sometimes the mangaka will draw Toujo with like ginormous hair so it looks like she has a long head. _________________ I am teh whit3 mag3! I p1ck up peoplez with teh owwziz and the boo8oos!
I thought that the ending was great, but very predictable.i mean i knew from the evry begining that he was going to pick nishino, though i dont mind heheheh. _________________ i pwn noobs

Nah i think it was a bad ending.Mostly the time skip part. Even when they embrace each other in the end it was a bit romantic but not to my liking.
Anyway i too have a felling from the begining that he choose nishino. That would be my choice too if i were manak

Hi, new guy here.
I initially hated the ending, I was so totally a member of the Manaka-Toujo faction. Then I started realizing a few things, which I humbly present here.
First of all, I think all the girls sacrificed a lot for Manaka; to me it's pointless to talk about who sacrificed more because each girl gave freely what to them was of value. For example, Toujo would've given up her success and advancement in the literary arts just so she could help Manaka with his dreams; Nishino sacrificed her love for Manaka so he could go to Izumisaka and probably to make it easier for Junpei and Aya to hook up; and Satsuki gave up on being anything other than Manaka's love.
That being said, I now believe being with Nishino was the right choice, because she was the only girl who could help Manaka be a better person. If he had chosen Toujo then both of them would've depended too much on each other, and they woud not have been able to reach their shared goals. Satsuki meanwhile wouldn't have been able to offer any help or advice to Manaka; none of them would ever have grown past the level they were in if they had ended up with each other, and Manaka was just not strong enough to support Satsuki or Toujo. Nishino was a positive force to Manaka the same way he was to the others. She saved him, even from himself as he just can't seem to help attracting girls (for example, during the karaoke thing with Ookusa).
IMO the series ended when they graduated high school; it was quite optimistic. The epilogue was a good reminder that although the story has ended, the characters' lives didn't stop and they probably still have adventures together.
Now, I want to address some gripes I have about Amachi. First off, just because one prediction of his came true (the Kozue thing), it doesn't mean the other one will; besides, anyone with eyes could see where the whole mess was going. Second, if I were a prep school student and I suddenly saw a girl in glasses and braids that I had never seen attending classes before, who probably had the same mannerisms and posture as the girl I liked, and Komiyama probably told me this was Toujo's old look when I bribed him with porn magazines, I'd probably be correct in recognizing her. Toujo was just a little too gullible to believe that crap. Minus points to Amachi for using such underhanded tactics; he totally deserved crashing like that, mistaking Aya's inability to express her emotions for permission to act like a heel. Since the very beginning Amachi's been working on a lot of incorrect assumptions. Compare his treatment of Aya during their first meeting with Kozue's and Manaka's.
Amachi thinks of Aya as this finished product, but it was Manaka's influence which made her what she was. His adoration of her writing skills seems suspect to me. I think he was just saying those things out of devotion. I mean, sure he talks about her novels, but I never heard anyone mention anything about HIS novels. If they had hooked up, I shudder to think what trauma Aya could have experienced. Amachi talks a good game, but I don't think he ever really inspired Aya to do anything. In the bookstore, if his brother hadn't slipped up I don't think Toujo would have corrected him; she was that uncomfortable around Amachi.
The minor character that I like the most though is Mukai Kozue. She was probably intended as a reflection of Aya; though the latter had less issues than the former she was able to get over them and confess to Manaka. It was Kozue that provided the impetus for Toujo to compete, and indirectly gave her the ability to move on with her life.
Although I will forever think of Manaka as a turd, I like that he managed to leave the women of his life better off than they were before he met them.
I love the way it's ended. I first thought it would be an open ending ~.~ but it isn't yaaay <3 nishino
*high five*
It's been a while since I found someone who liked the ending! lol I was happy about it too. I did think it was weird and somewhat inconsistent but I <3 Nishino too. So, I'm happy. _________________
one of my favourite mangas ^^ the ending was a bit suprising though... i always thought that manaka would end up with toujou, but he ended up with nishino... well, at least its better than some other mangas where the ending and everything else is always so obvious
The ending's alright, even though I personally didn't really like a ManakaxNishino pairing. The unfortunate part for Toujo is that she isn't completely able to come out of her shell to express her feelings very well for Manaka, while Nishino appeared able to do so quite well, and was shown to be 'working hard' for it, in the right way too, if I may add. A mixture of subtleness and boldness-She emobodies both Toujo and Satsuki and is willing to use it to her advantage to shift things in her favour over the other two girls.
Aside from that, I thought the pairing at the end was rather obvious: It's always the girl that the guy's comfortable talking to, and the girl that sometimes bashes the guy for one reason or the other nowadays. An obvious example would be School Rumble, but I won't dwell much into it. _________________ [IMG:350:100:b32e8a3e97]http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a103/FAITH01/tomoyo1.png[/img:b32e8a3e97]
heh, it's possible to be happy and dissapointed at the same time right? I agree with Saru and leoxjm, the ending was great! But at the same time, i kinda was expecting(and looking forward to) a happy ending with aya. I mean, she loved him for, what, 5 years!?! and then gave up that easy?!? seriously, i love Nishino, but i cant help but think, poor aya........... _________________ What if, the only reason we die, is because we accept death as an inevitability?
This has to be my most favorite manga ever!!! I loved it. Once i started reading i couldnt stop. Sure the ending didnt come out the way I wanted it (Aya and Manaka) but that doesnt mean I hate it. Also did this make any one else cry or is it just me n e ways I suggest everyone to read this whether it be guy or girl young or old . Awesome and Im a guy i just love this manga alot
