How about L'arc-en-Ciel or X-Japan?
I'm buying their original CD's little by little because I think they are great groups, especially L'arc.
If we tak about singers, I like very much Namie Amuro, Utada Hikaru or Koda Kumi. BoA has good songs too.
I recently listened songs of Do As Infinity, The Yellow Monkey, T.M.Revolution and Siam Shade.

My newest favourite band is Plastic Tree (Mainly because of the vocalist Ryuutarou). His voice is so amazingly unique and the way he sings just makes me melt, no matter what he's singing and his personality is different from any other J-rocker that I've ever known of. Everything about him just captivates me completely. He's, without a dout, my favourite singer, even if the band isn't my absolute favourite (yet). And apparently he's cosplayed L from Death Note (I just saw a picture today) and that just about made me die @_@;;
