I thought about posting this in the Tech area but since it doesn't really deal wih problems and is more about bragging I decided to post here. I've been a bit bored lately looking at the same old dest top and decided a new look was in order. After brousing around Gnome-Look.org and Deviant Art I finally came up with something I'm pretty proud of. Anyone that knows Linux and the Gnome desktop enviroment knows that it can look pretty plain vanilla but check this out:

That doesn't look all that plain now does it. It is Ubuntu Linux using Gnome 2.x with Enlightenment E-16 as the engine instead of Metacity. The contols for the windows are from the Ganynede theme from E-16 While the boxes use the GTK theme E-17 More Blue Then Gold (it's a GTK theme made to look like an E-17 theme). The icons are Glossy Glass except for the panels firefox icon. The background is called Swedish Poetry I got from Deviant Art (you really can't see it that well sorry).
It's hard to show you everything this set up does on a static screenshot and it does look better in person then in the screenie. Still I think it looks pretty slick. I'll probably keep it for a bit before I get tired of looking at it.

There already is a thread for Anime/Manga desktops here
To post other images that you made please refer to the Fan Works forum, although I don't know it that would be the place to put funky screenshots... *scratches head*

 Doh, I guess my image host sucks. It worked for a bit and then kicked out from under me.
Yeah I knew about the anime background post but my new one (now you can see it) isn't anime anymore and you don't really see the back ground so much since it's a veiw of the overall theme.
By the way if you check out the workspace pager in the lower left you can see where the first panel has A-Ss daily release page and the last panel has an A-S hosted manga up in it. The lower right corner is the icon box with a bittorrent download working in it.
Like I said it's not about anime backgrounds so much as what do you have in your box that makes it look nice. Of course having Anime-Source up can't help but make it look better.
I noticed that Pherose has Anime-Source on his bar amoung other things that come in handy for anime pleasure along with world of warcraft and such. Seems like you can learn a bit about people by looking at their desktops so you folks might want to make sure you don't have any sensitive data showing. |

It's OK, leo. In here, the wallpaper can be anything other than anime, so I will just let it go =)
But please, people, no nudity, OK?

There is. leoxjm has put the link in his post, but that is for anime/manga. In the FFA, you can just use any wallpaper as long as there is little or no nudity =)

Well, that's why I said I didn't know about Funky screenshots (such as this one). Since Jsy3k is the Man here, then it is ok for me too.
Nice screen shot Tex! that looks really cool. I can see Anime Source's manga in there! And I can see the daily releases too in the bottom left corner of the image! it is just beside... Huh? What's this?

Believe it or not both wallpapers are done in the "impressionist" style. The "look" of nudity is achieved using broad brush strokes. It's kinda like looking at a nude barbi doll covered in paint. Here is the link to the wallpaper at diviant art if you want a clearer look http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29699033/ I can fix it though if it really bothers anyone by opening a stratigicaly placed application in that window. and retaking the screen shot.
(Edit: Okay I already did change the screen shot not only to decrease any offence but to include my decktop doppler radar, XMMS player, and to show the A-S headers (for forums and manga) in the workspace pagers and it's a little hard to tell but the Daily releases are in the Iconbox.)
Sometimes there is no way of winning when you have an idea for a post that was done long ago. If it's really old people get all hot and bothered for resurecting a old post and then others get mad because it's been done before. I knew about the anime wallpaper post (I had replied to it and even showed the Jigoku Shoujo wallpaper I made), I didn't know about the other one (I should have done a search first, my bad:oops:).

I believe it alright. I don't think you'll have to change the screenshot. It is really a small detail, so you shouldn't worry about it. And don't worry about the thread either. That old desktops thread has been dead for two years already. Leave it alone and move on. I don't see anything wrong with keeping this thread up. My first post here was directed at Pherose anyway, since at the time I couldn't see your screenshot. I should have been more specific. My bad.
