Trinity Blood

Yesterday, I finally got around to watching the rest of Trinity Blood. I had put off the series since episode 16. The little glimpses of the actual story from the anime really intrigued me to dig further into the world of Trinity Blood. Turns out... Trinity Blood is a pure Science Fiction rather than a simple vampire story. It had very Planet of the Apes-ish feel to it.


Trinity Blood was originally published as series of novels written by author by the name of Yoshida Sunao. Yoshida Sunao died shortly after the anime was announced. Sadly, the true conclusion of Trinity Blood as the original author intended will never see the light of the day.

After reading about the storylines of the novels, the confusing scenes from the anime really started to come together and made sense!

My summary of background story (Not covered in anime)


As the anime showed us, there were 4 genetically engineered children which included the Nightlord siblings. Lilith was the prototype and the first to be created. Later Abel, Cain, and Seth were created as the Nightlord siblings. The 4 were created in order to guide and lead the human martian colonization. They were engineered to be better than regular humans and age slower than normal person.
This was around late 21st century, so about ~2090AD (900 years before the setting of anime Trinity Blood). The world was experiencing the effects of overpopulation; which was why the UN decided to send pioneers to Mars to colonize the planet for more human arrivals.

When the colonizers first came to Mars, they discovered a spaceship containing preserved alien bodies. They also found two types of alien nanomachines "Bacillus" and "Crusnik". While they tried to research ways to grow these nanomachines, Cain and one other human settler got into an accident and got severely injured. Seth decided to inject both with the Crusnik; which resulted in both of them dying. However, Cain came back to life after death while the other settler stayed dead.

They found out the "Crusnik" was only compatible with the 4 genetically enhanced humans which were: Lilith, Abel, Cain, Seth.
So later they injected all the normal human martial colonizers with the "bacillus" nanomachines. As a result, the settlers became "better" than regular humans and was able to adapt to harsh environments of Mars. The Nightlord siblings who recieved the Crusnik nanomachines gained far superior power than the Bacillus injected settlers.

The technology contained within the alien ship caused civil wars between martian settlers; which somehow resulted in destruction of the settler's spaceship to return to earth. The martian settlers wanted to return to earth, so they built a new spaceship modeled after the alien ship; which took about 80 years to complete. At this point, they've all recieved nanomachines which allows them longer life span, so I don't think it was too bad for them.

While the settlers were away, the earth went through armagedon that ravaged the entire planet with nuclear weapons, but left much of Europe intect because only biological weapons were used on Europe leaving most of the ancient architectural structures unharmed.

When Martians came back to earth to find the devastated world, they helped humans to rebuild and recover. The earth's technology was far below the Martian returner's technology because of Armagedon and the fact that Martians were using the alien technologies recovered from the alien ship found on Mars.

The different conditions of earth caused mutations in Bacillus inside the Martians. This caused Bacillus to consume red blood cells of the host and make them thirst for blood. Conflict started to arise between the Martians and the earth humans. When a Martians and humans got into a war, the Nightlord siblings were on the Martians' side. They used their powers to kill many humans, and Cain was already 100% fused with the Crusnik and wanted to destroy everything. This is also the reason why Abel and Seth never fuses 100% with Crusnik, in fear of getting taken over by Crusnik.

Crusnik was actually the reason why the aliens who created it were destroyed. Crusnik are not just a different strain of Bacillus. Bacillus were actually created by Crusnik to become food for them. Which is why Nightlord siblings are "vampires who drink other vampires' blood".

Outraged by the carnage brought on by Nightlord siblings, Lilith integrated Crusnik to herself to help earth inhabitants. Lilith was killed by Cain, and this angered Abel so much that Abel threw Cain out of the spaceship into the earth atmosphere burning him into pile of dust. By Lilith's death, Abel realized his mistakes and decided to help the earth inhabitants again.
This is when Vatican took Abel in, and he's been serving them for hundreds of years.
Seth created an empire of Martian returners.
Cain didn't die from getting disintegrated into dust. He regenerated from scratch for hundreds of years, and created the orden to bring chaos and destruction into the world.

In anime, Abel says he is a sinner and will never forgive himself. This is probably because:
Abel was originally very violent and anti-social person. He hated the humans for creating them as mere tools. This is why Abel lead the war against earth inhabitants so readily. Cain on the other hand, was very respected and kind leader before he was taken over by the Crusnik's thirst for destruction.
As with the aliens who had preserved bodies after death, it seems to be true for Lilith's body even after over 600 years after death. The anime clearly shows Lilith's preserved body in episode 23.

Basically that was a basic summary of stuff I saw on Wikipedia article.

I watched his anime and absolutely loved it without knowing too much about the overall story. But now that you've enlightened me I've found a renewed fondness of this anime. Thank you.
