Am i the only one who thinks it does not have much of a story? Well, all i see is Stephen here beating the crap out of every gangster copying Matrix style and some old comic book actions.

Heard that this film was supposed to be a tribute to Bruce Lee but i find that quite funny since i don't see anything related to Bruce Lee except for the scene, the Dragon Girl (landlord's wife with bad hair style, terrible voice and a flying bra) "picks" her nose (Bruce Lee always does this when he's kicking ass).

First, we were shown a moron (the head of gangster) performing some weird dance while killing people, a butt of some guy then the Road Runner scene? I find that quite stupid although my friends were laughing like donkeys beside me. The only part i like is when the two assassins appear since I like the idea of using musical instrument as a weapon. However, there were too many copied ideas like for example, the Toad Style and name of the landlord and his wife were copied from Jin Yong's well known novel - Legend of Condor Heroes (there's an anime based on this and it's quite good)

Personally, i like the old movies by Stephen Chow. They don't have any CG but what's important in a comedy should be the story and the jokes, not some fancy action scenes from Matrix. This film lacks originality unlike Shaolin Soccer (although it does seem to insult Shaolin KungFu)

Uh, Stephen's previous movies never had a substantial story. That's why they were called 'mo lei tao' or "No head, no tail / Totally illogical" movies.

That said, Kung Fu Hustle is a homage of old kung fu shows, of which there are many besides Bruce Lee. Besides what is stated in that "Six Degrees" article, there are simply too many but the genre which Kung Fu Hustle was showing off in was definitely bringing back some of the old atmosphre in them 60's to 80's, Shaw Brothers' kung fu flicks and such.

True, it is less funny than his true 'mo lei tao' classic ( which I prefer Shen Si Guan, Jiu Ping Zhi Ma Guan, Lu Ding Ji, Shen Long Jiao, Guo Chan Ling Ling Fa, etc ) , but it is one of the marks of new achievement for the Hong Kong movie industry. Personally for Stephen, it is also better than those shitty flicks he produced just when his popularity started to wane. Bai Bian Jing Gang anyone?

I watched all of them, they are killers, funny and yeah.......
but kung fu hustle, even though steven tryed to make it funny, but he knew that the "mo lei tao" type will not be preferred by the western countries, ( he knew the movie is going over-sea ) therefore, he slidely
change the way he made movie, hoping to interest the west.......

I just watched this movie and found it very entertaining. The comedy here was very well done but like every one else has mentioned, the story was lacking. I believe introducing so many interesting and unique characters without giving them much of a back-story is the main fault.

Oh yeah, the knife scene was very funny Smile

Well, all his movies are cool, and funny, very funny! I like it a lot. They say they are going to make Kung Fu Hustle 2 now.

I liked this movie mainly for the fight scenes. Contrary to what a lot of you are saying, I never found this movie to be that funny (maybe cuz the concept of an action-comedy doesn't appeal to me), but that's just how I see things.

The best part, by far, is the knife throwing scene; can't get enough of it.

I thought the fight scenes in this movie blew the matrix away. But thats just my opinion. I really like the first fight with the three guys from pig sty alley. Why did they have to die? I couldn't stop laughing at the knife scene.
