Otakon is the largest anime convention on the East cost. www.otakon.com It's held every year in Baltimore, Maryland. I've gone to Otakon three times. I won't be gonig this year though I'll most definitely going next year. |

Personally I would never go to an Otakon ever. Just because I can enjoy the pleasures of japanese animation and manga in my own home. Plus I have too many things going on here to even try to be at any kind of convention. _________________

anime conventions can be really exciting experiences. you can go out and meet others with interests similar to your own. at these conventions, you meet a ton of other people (3 of my best friends i met at a convention), trade outlooks on shared interests (favorite animes, opinions on current shows) and, of course, blow tons of money on cute memorabilia ^^. while some argue this can (mostly) still be done while sitting at home with a nice cold drink, there is just something about getting out and meeting people face to face that the internet just can't give.
ps i forgot, you can't get free wallscrolls or other little freebies by sitting at home either =P _________________

I agree with ddogt432 about the difference between the environment of the convention and the environment of your home, I mean there's is a limit as to the kind of interaction that you can have at home in comperasion to the interaction at a populated place in where you can meet other people or participate on the different activities and events. Although I never been to an anime convention, I think I might have fun at one them...
Oh! by the way, my thanks to Veniogenesis for the link to otakon, it was really helpful. |

I'm going! I've gone the past three years as well... although, I did think it was a little too crowded for my taste last year. I couldn't really get a good look at all the merchandise until sunday, and by then it was all picked over. This year they're doing things a little differently though... so I'm hoping there wont be as many people (I don't count on it though ) |
