Of all the Gundam shows two are popular to our place (warning: bias) Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed.
The first, naturally describe the 5 protagonists as very good looking young yuppies so they are quite popular to the girls.(Sigh good looking but warfreaks)
The second which is a great twist to the Gundam Series, has great story, great character development but sadly i can't get over the ending. It seems weak oops.. i will not spoil it. Its still a good anime to watch.
Sadly im not sure about the chronological order of the Gundam series. I only seen 4 or 5 (let me count in my finger Ahh!!) |

here's the thing: why is there so many gundam versions? why can't they just make one altogether?
It's confusing to memorize all of the versions |

hmmm...
My first gundam was Seed and find it quite enjoying indeed, and it was cont'd on to Seed Destiny... One observation I had made is that those who watched the previous gundams, esp the those who watched UC's didnt like Seed, coz they said it was a copy of it... |

| Gundam is pretty cool. some of them however are pretty boring and don't really like the drawing style for the very old ones but the new ones like Seed is pretty good |

Hi peeps!
I searched on the web for Gundam TV series. I noticed there where a lot different ones, Gundam ZZ, Gundem Seed, G Gundam etcetera (http://www.animenfo.com/search.php).
If al these are related somehow, does anyone happen to know the correct orther to watch them. Because I don't want to watch a later published series which I can't hardly understand 'cause I did not see it's predecessor .
Thnx for reading - and pls help me out here |
OK, Gundam is like this... They are separated into many different timelines. The first of which is the Universal Century (UC), which is the timeline for which the majority of the Gundam anime take place in (hence they are related to each other, and some are direct sequels of one another). Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char's Counterattack, Gundam F-91, Victory Gundam, and the OVA's, Gundam 0080, 0083 and 08th MS Team are all part of the UC timeline. So it's best if you watch these in order (the OVAs take place during and after the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and the rest of shows are chronologically in the order I listed). However while you might miss some things if you don't watch the other UC's, some of these shows can be watched without knowing the background behind it, for example 0080, 08th MS Team and Victory, mainly because the characters and stories are pretty standalone.
Starting in 1994, Sunrise and Bandai decided to go a new direction and created the Alternate Universe Gundam's. Each of these shows take place in a different universe, so they don't have anything to do with each other (or so it is said). These are G Gundam (Future Century timeline), Gundam Wing and its OVA sequel, Endless Waltz (After Colony Timeline), and Gundam X (After War timline). Each of these can be seen without watching any other Gundam shows before because they have nothing to do with any Gundam show from before (though for Gundam X it's better if you know what the theory behind Newtypes are--and that's UC stuff)
Next, there's Turn A Gundam (Correct Century timeline), which takes place in its own alternate universe timeline. However, throughout the series they show various suits from older Gundam shows and it seems to establish that all the alternate universes are actually part of the same universe, except they take place over an extremely long time which allowed the world to evolve through the different timelines. This theory hasn't been accepted by everyone yet, but it's something to keep in mind.
And finally there's Gundam SEED (Cosmic Era timeline), which is Sunrise's "Gundam of the new millenium." This is another alternate universe series (ignoring the Turn A Gundam theory), however, it appears that Cosmic Era will be the first non-UC timeline to get a sequel TV series due to rumors of a possible SEED sequel in the fall... So we'll see what happens.

If you are gonna watch the Gundam series. Better watch the UC(the Original) and the After Colony timelines. The UC is the forefront of the Gundam series.
The After Colony is a different timeline and has the best story after the UC timeline. The two timelines are the ones I recommend. If you like the other timelines. watch it. Just don't watch the Cosmic Era timeline. |

I'd recommend otherwise. I have only watched one of the UC shows, but I've heard the others are good so it would be worthwhile to check them out. After Colony, in my opinion, was too simple-minded and, frankly, good for killing time but not much else. Aside from that I never cared much about its characters, so Gundam Wing is not high in my Gundam preferences. I do prefer the CE timeline, although´I'm admittedly very disappointed with the last 12 or so episodes of Gundam SEED Destiny.
If you want something different you could alwayss check out Turn A Gundam. I watched it recently and it is an awesome show, especially the end part. Visually it is an acquired taste, but once you get used to it it becomes a very enjoyable show.
And... was the necromancy really necessary? isn't there another thread like this somewhere else? _________________
