Hmm... I haven't watched it yet (downloaded 19-21 overnight) but I wonder if this is different to their story in the manga. I have to say, that had a happy-ish ending.
In the manga...
we learn Sayoko isn't Asami's birth mother, but her stepmother. Asami's mother died when she was very young, and her father married Sayoko. Then, Asami's father is killed in an accident, and that's when Sayoko loses her will to live to the extent that we see her like she is in the manga. Something we don't see in the anime that's in the manga is that Sayoko regularly tries or pretends to try hanging herself - after a chapter in the manga where Asami has a heart-to-heart with Shiratori explaining the situation because she's sick and tired of Sayoko trying to kill herself and is beginning to wonder if Sayoko really cares about her, which Shiratori proves to her that she does very well (with everyone else eavesdropping, including Sayoko, which prompts the most emotion we're ever likely to see from her (hugging Asami and saying, "I.. will... try... harder...")) and from then on the noose stays on the tree, but Sayoko is always fighting to stay away from it. Their whole story is tragic, but in the manga at least things seem to work out.
Now I'm going to have to watch this episode over breakfast... |

| I didnt expect such a nice story twist to be focused on asami. Cos i thought this was just a light hearted anime with lots of background casts as i categorise asami under tat. Its getting real good. |

Climax... Booyeah! I love it. Yet... so sad. I just realised that there are a couple of really strange characters in this story. Shiratori damn wuss, he's got no character. Maybe a bit, but it doesnt shine much. pretty weak for a protagonist.

Then you'll really like Episode 23. I just saw the raw and can't wait for it to be subbed... (spoilers)
Everyone goes on a picnic in the woods. Shiratori and Kozue do a lot of hand-holding (I don't think they even consciously know they're doing it) and have a lot of private time (with a lot of interruption by an increasingly jealous Tamami). I just wish I knew what they were saying.

Yes, that has.
I'm watching the raw for #24 now... and that is where it REALLY starts getting interesting.
Episode 24 Spoiler:
A few posts back, I speculated on what happened to (a) cause Kozue's parents' death (and whether there were circumstances she blames herself for), and (b) whether that was the root cause of her MPD. It's all revealed in Episode 24. You may need Kleenex for this one.

I bet that's the season finale! I wonder why no one has been releaseing the fansub lately? I bet they're trying to pull what Maigo did with Magical Canan, releasing the rest of the remaining episodes in one day.

There was a preview for the next episode. These last few episodes have been really giving the show a good storyline, and 24 in particular. Without giving anything away, it is very interesting what happens. Furthermore, there are 26 episodes (confirmed at Animenewsnetwork).
Froth-bite have apparently been busy with several other series; Mahoraba is about the only one they haven't subbed an episode for in the past week. I'm wondering if that's their plan... |

A fansub group named Teruterubouzo just released the fansub for 22 and just yesterday Foth-bite released fansub for episode 20, meaning they won't be doing what I hoped. Maybe Vagrant will do that.
Honestly, I hate it when fangroups start shows off from later episodes. There are some poeple who maybe interested in looking at this show but can't do so because they can't find a lot of seeded torrents. I do respect the fansub group for fansubbing the episode for the benifit of us, which is the only reason I downloaded it.

I just watched the first few epsiodes and find it very interesting. I just dled the whole 23 episodes, but just watched 4 episode yesterday. Looks like I'm going to get hooked into the anime. Can't wait to watch the rest of the anime.

Wait and see. I've seen the raws of the last three episodes, and they go similarly to the manga (but there are some significant differences between events in the anime and manga) as far as Tamami's behaviour. |

I know I'm responding like super late but having a personal life sucks like a bi*ch! Anyway, I really loved this episode and Momo hair was really nicely done. I just loved everything about this episode, even the ending which shows to leave us on a cliffhanger this season or just a very sad ending overall.
[spoiler]Tamami was acting so spoiled this episode. I thought she was actually tryign to get them together, but I guess that episode where she thought Kozue stood her up must've REALLY made her think. [/spoiler]
