The Umeboshi Hime Storybook is exclusive to the anime, Shiratori's quest to cure Kozue of her illness goes a markedly different way in the manga.
Mind telling for us non-manga readers, what Shiratori did for Kozue in the mange??
Okay, but the story diverges from what's in the anime, so spoiler space is necessary:
for those who don't want to be spoiled and read the manga for themselves (I wholeheartedly recommend it, everything that's been released in print is now available scanlated. Go to http://www.tokyotosho.com/index.php. search on Mahoraba, and get the manga by the Hiyoko_no_GAO group. They have all 9 volumes in a batch torrent or the individual volumes also available. The stories start to diverge in Volume 8, and there are some notable incidents in volumes prior to that which aren't covered in the anime (some you'll understand why when you read it).
In the manga, the whole Shiratori accident and Kozue going catatonic storyline doesn't happen; indeed, her parents don't die in the manga either, but we see that they constantly fought, and her grandfather kept her away from that as much as he could.
The story diverts with Kozue's birthday. After Tamami has the Episode 25 talk with Shiratori, he takes a part-time job to earn money for Kozue's birthday present. He buys this giant stuffed bear at a kerbside stall, and brings it home (unfortunately, Kozue opens the front door just as he is trying to figure out how to sneak it in). Kozue realises it's her birthday present, loves it, and they have the conversation from Episode 23 (on the train). Shiratori says he wishes he could stay with her forever, because he loves her, which she catches straight away and then he realises what he said. He decides there's no turning back and formally confesses to her, to which she happily accepts.
Their relationship is announced at Kozue's birthday party, and upon returning from a date the next day, Kozue slips in the snow and turns into Nanako... who greats Shiratori with a kiss. Yup. Momono goes nuts, tells Nanako to do it again, to which Nanako replies, "of course I will, because Nanako and Onii-chan are lovers". Tamami notices this, and later, after Nanako is asleep, asks everyone how Nanako knows that Kozue and Shiratori are dating, and hypothesises that her multiple personalities are starting to merge.
Tamami is really peeved that she's been trying to do this for five years, and Shiratori causes this breakthrough in a matter of months (days if you only count when they started going out). However, Tama-chan being Tama-chan, points out to Shiratori that it may also be the case that Saki, Chiyuri, and Natsume may also think they're his girlfriend (considering Chiyuri's rampant dislike for boys, that would be interesting ^^).
In Volume 9 (the last volume released so far in print), Natsume shows up. The last arc of that volume is a flashback story which covers Momono's meeting of her boyfriend in her school days and her past (which gives more light on her musical talent). Momono fans note ,that the manga story is quite dark and covers topics not included in the anime.
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Saki's handling of her 'relationship' with Shiratori, as in the anime I think it was clear she had a crush on him but didn't dare reveal it ^^.
In any case, the manga is a great read, and has enough departure from the anime plotline to make it a good read.

I just watched the 22nd episode and quite surprised at Sayoko (She is really a completely different person in that episode o_O). I'm really looking forward to the ending of this anime. _________________ Innocent Tranquility

I have watched this anime and I like it. It's not too flashy but it's not "normal" either. It's just a pleasant anime to watch. As for the manga... I recently started reading it and I seem to like it so far too. A lot of the aspects of what's in the anime is there. Only difference is Shiratori's clothes. Any idea why they changed it? It's not a big a deal or anything... I'm just curious.

I agree with Buzzness. At first, I thought this was gonna be another harem romantic-comedy, but it's actually more of a daily-life series revolving around the residents of a small, metropolitan apartment complex. Though Shiratori and Kozue are the main attraction, the "supporting" cast is just as active and prominent on-screen as the main cast (plus I'm totally in love with Momono-san and the Occult Club President). There are plenty of twists on the genre and the comedy makes it very enjoyable. The best feature of this series is the music.
Also, I submitted an in-depth review of this series as part of my application for staff writer. If my review doesn't make the front page, I'll submit it to the regular anime review section. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a light-hearted story.
