I know a lot of people did see the movie but how many of you have read the manga? I just finished reading the six volumes ranging from 300 to 400+ pages. I think its much better than the movie(event though the movie was good) but thats probably because the director tried to squeze at least 8 hours worth of content in to a 2 hour movie and there are many differences with the sories but most of the manin characters that are in the manga are included in the movie, thats all i can say without spoilers so here they are:
in the manga tetsuo becomes the leader of the clown gang, then he joins the military where he learns about akira, and in the manga akira is not just a bunch of jars but a little boy, and he again destroy tokyo like he did 30 years before, plus #19 who is featured in the movie for about 2 minutes plays a really big role in the manga, plus there is a bigger emphasis on the pill tetsuo and the kids take, those are just few differences between the movie and manga with out going in too deep in to it
like i said ealier the manga is really good, i know this is not much of a review but the story is much more evolved than the movie and it rather hard to stop reading it, even though some of the volumes take (for me) more than 2 hours to read, so go read it(if you haven't already), also i think if they should have made an ainme(something around 26 eps) instead of the movie |

yeah i know all peeps who work at my Boarders and i was thinking about getting the akira anime. Even though i knew theese peeps they gave me wierd looks when i bought the flcl manga so a scan for me is also preferable. Another plus for a scan is that darn cost. Books are spensive nowadays. shesh |

you can definetley find them on eMule or something like that, or if you are willing (like some people already said) pay around $30 for each volume
I go to b&n and borders all the time( i went there yesterday and found nice little manga, that i think was korean, my sasy girlfriend, funny and a lttle bit ecchi)) but my excuse is that i do buy manga there and other books, plus they will not say anything because they don't want to loose customers |

"My Sassy Girlfriend" is a manga?! Hmm that is a surprise to me. I watched a Korean movie with that title (The English official title is however "My Sassy Girl") and it was a really funny/heartwarming love story. As far as I know, the movie was based on Kim Ho-Sik's novel of the same name. It is even up for a Hollywood remake now.

| the point with Akira the movie is being so awesome is the animation and the grittiness of the story. to fully understand the anime you basically had to read the manga as well. once you read the books the anime makes a lot more sense and you can enjoy the animation even more. (which i believe was the whole point of the movie.) i mean you are taking a 5 or 6 volume book which are hundred of pages long and tired to make it into a two hour movie it was impossible. that is why there are so many holes in the story. read the books then watch it again. |
