Anyone else have read this one? I was sceptical at first, not being much of a fan of food manga. But this one is pretty cool. Very informational... and damned funny! The reactions by Pierrot and Kuroyan always crack me up - especially the ones by Kuroyan, like the DOOOOOG one, hahah!
There ain't too much of a romance going on (except Suwabara and that cute American girl), so this might turn off the shoujo readers.
The thing that disturbs me is that Kanmuri (and some of the other dudes, like that CMAP fella) look like girls. Heh.
If you don't know what i'm talking, or if you want to find where to download it, then go here: http://souhaku.free.fr/

Heh, i didn't say he's a wuss, just that when he appeared, i seriously thought he was a girl
Where did you find those scans? I was looking around to see if any sites had chapters after 129, but couldn't find any. But i suppose those images are sort of "previews"? They aren't available yet, right?
Man, i can't wait to read the next chapters because of those scans of yours! |

| Definitely agree. This manga is super cool. Weird kind of reactions though. When i first heard that the manga is about making bread, didn't have any interest at first. When i started reading i wanted more. Ehehe Ganbatte to the scanlators who did this series. Great job to the mangaka |

Theres one. It's called shota no sushi (将太の寿司), or in mandarin "jiangtai de shousi", in english tranlated as "Shota's sushi". It's not licensed as far as I know.
This one of the more popular cooking manga back in the early 90's. Heck they even make a popular J-drama out of it. I think it was 13 episodes long. This manga is about 34 volumes long, consisting of two parts.
Basically, its about this young guy called Shota who aims to be the number one sushi chef in Japan to save his fathers sushi shop. In the beginning, he was quite unskilled at sushi, but at time goes on he picks up new skill and going a step closer to his dream. You actually see Shota growing in character and skills with each new volume. It's sort of like Hikaru no go but sushi style or rather the other way round since this manga was released like almost a decade before.
IMHO, this is better than Yakitake. Unfortunately, I haven't found anygroups translating this.
These are the chinese scans (if anyone interested, the drawings seems old style like Ippo but it will improve later on)
This is from the first volume:

This is from volume 34
The Final Battle

EDIT;
Theres actually another one called "Iron Wok Jan" but I haven't read it before, but it's pretty similar in concept to Yakitake and the one I mentioned above, Shota no sushi. This one unfortunately is licensed under ComicOne. This is the short synopsis.
| Quote: |
Jan Akiyama is a talented young chef who unfortunately knows just how skilled he is. Trained by his grandfather, a legendary "master of Chinese cuisine", his ego is his biggest battle to overcome in understanding just what cooking is all about. He thinks it's all a competition, demanding he always be the best. Winning is all that matters to him, so much so that he forces battles even in everyday situations. It's not enough for him to win; others must lose, often in a humiliating way.
He ends up working at Gobancho, Tokyo's finest Chinese restaurant. The owner's granddaughter, Kiriko, is also a very talented chef who's internalized the reputation of the family business. She represents the importance of a good heart in great cooking, which brings her into direct conflict with Jan.
