What do you think about rap?

Here in Cali is a haven for big rap and hip hop fans, yet there are occasional groups of people who claim that rap is not music. What do you think?

Rap is music. Music is art. Tupac is a brilliant lyricist and poet. As far as I know, poetry is art. Rapping is just poetry in motion, correct?

Lately, though, the rap/hip-hop genre has become somewhat stale (mainstream anyways). Too many artists rapping about the same damn thing. I'm glad the industry still has some fresh material at hand such as Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Outkast, Black Eyed Peas (pre-Fergie, but I enjoy them anyways), and of course Tupac Shakur.

Other than them and a few other artists, rap/hip-hop has gone downhill...

Some people say "Rap is Crap", and I would have to agree. But I defenitly think it's music. If music is a form of art, then rap certainly is music. For one, they are able to form a relatively impressive set of rhymes and rhythms, the words (lyrics) are really creative too. The reason I really really loathe rap is the music videos they love to form with it. There's always women (wearing practically nothing), always parties, and always a few set of guys.

Eew to 50 cent, eew whomever associated with 50 cent.
The only one I respect is probably Eminem.

I would have to agree with Himitsu, the whole rap culture/mentality really disgusts me; I don't much care for rap music either.

Rap is just one of the type of music i do not like but i do respect it and people that listens to it. It just Rap isnt what i hear everyday and Rap doesnt help me its gives me headaches hahaha... its that rap there is alot of foul words that i hear everyday of my life as it is i dont need to hear it agian. SOme raps i do like though hahaha and most i dont.... Im those type of asian people that listens to techno/trance, with a little oldies from 1950's to 1990's, and rock eventually from time to time

i truelly dis like rap... and pop is gay too.... just leave me be with my precious rock.. thats the best. I love that stuff hehe. its like everywhere i go you hear rap music... i mean everywhere of everyday of every second.. rap rap rap... i have had enough rap...

i dont like rap because the song is mostly talking about sex, drugs or killing people. my english teacher said that rap corrupts the mind of teenagers and it gives them the idea that killing and doing drugs is cool. in every rap video there is always some rapper that is trying to act tough and the setting of video mostly takes place in parties or out in the ghetto. i m one of those people that would prefer chinese pop or rock.

Not to insult rap people but i think its just the same thing spoken over over like same kind of music talking about same thing but not gona get into it cuase don't wanna insult other people

i like rap, but mostly for the beats. i like a lot of bass, and you can find it best in rap and hip hop. techno/dance is ok for that too (but no trance, please. gives me a headache). but i can get tired of anything eventually. i don't like any music in which the lyrics are too nasty, but it's not only rap cuz some rock songs can be bad too. (and techno can be nasty too haha)

to those who think rap corrupts young people's minds, i say think about it a bit. it's more the environment that people are in rather than the music they listen to. kids who are raised well will turn out good no matter what they listen to. but if you think about it, you mostly hear about murderous kids/ young adults listening to some kind of rock, like death metal or something. not to rap.

and a lot of the mainstream rap nowadays is kinda mediocre, anyway. the older stuff can be better (except too short. oh my god, his raps are sooo nasty Mad

) . like i said, i like it mostly for the beats.
