What do you think about rap?

I love rap, have the last 3 or 4 eminem cds like d12 and dmx and x-zibit, but i hate the people who talk like they are gangsters, just sounds stupid..

I prefered eminems earlier cds (slim shady and marshall mathers LP) as he was i suppose more angry and didnt have as much money..

I know quite a few people who hate rap because alot of it is quite pointless gangster stuff (raping sisters so on) but some songs are quite good as they tell a story, those i like the best

I love rap! It's one of my favorite music genre. Thing is, people insult rap because it's mostly about how these gangstas got shot and still standin' on their feet. Thing is, my life literally revolves around rap. My brother is a rap artist( seriously, it's not like I'm going to say "who" though. He's local anyway so I doubt you all know him ) and he built a studio in our house( which totally sucks. Company is over here like all day ).

People say rap is for black people but I resent that so much. That's the reason why a lot of people from other races back away from the genre. People say rock and other genres is for white people but I listen to all type of music and I'm black. Shocker, huh?

Life experiences make the best poetry. That's why rap is how it is.

I don't like goofy parody like things, hence I don't like Eminem most of the time. His more serious songs like "The Way I Am" and such were really good. Because they weren't about random bullshit, but about life experiences.

If you don't like rap because some of it is about urban survival, that's just to bad. Those are the life experiences they had, since most rappers don't grow up in suburban America and most have gotten a record... Not because it makes 'em look hard, but because sometimes people have to do unsightly things to survive. ^^ I by no means glorify violence, but if it happened why not talk about it through poetr, that's why most rappers do.

The thing I respect most is freestyle though, to make up rhymes on the spot. That's probably one of the more impressive things that I've ever seen. That's enough of a rant though, people hate what they hate and like what they like.

I'll tell you one thing though... I hate metal that is either all growling or all screaming... I don't care if it has instruments, in that case make an instrumental and get rid of the vocalist because I can't understand a word he's saying. At least with rap you have a chance to understand without consulting the lyric book put in the CD case. ^^

Unfortunately, I'm also one that can't stand rap. That doesnt mean I go around shouting 'Rap sucks! Harhar!' its just...it seems repetitive to me. :/ And, in my opinion, most rap artists sound the same. Too me, at least.
I have nothing against people who like rap, though I know few who do. To each their own.
It's good to have variety though, so I really dislike people who are like
'omg heavy metal is teh oly thing 4 meh'...
So kudos to everyone that listens to a broad horizon of music! ^_^

I can't stand rap!! All the rap I know of is all about having sex, doing drugs, getting in trouble, and other bad things. And Way too much cussing! Most of them are also ehm african-american. the only white rapper I know of is Eminem, and I don't even like him. Not that there's anything wrong with black people, it just seems like rap really stereotypes them. At a school dance one time (now, over 50% of my school was black people) whenever a the dj would play a song sung by a white person, all the black people would sit down and wait until like a rap song came on or something by a black person. I don't mean to offend anyone, it just bothers me. Rap < Pop < Rock

Rap as poetry is a whole other thing then rap as music, in my opinion.

I don't like listening to rap, cause I don't like how the stereotype bass is used in EACH and every rap song.
That doesn't mean I don't like rap though.. Some rap lyrics I heard are some of the most brilliant poems I've ever read, and they are really inspireing for me, as I am a poet.

What I further dislike about Rap, is the stupid 'Gangsta' image. I hate the fact that all those rappers on MTV want to be the most badd ass Gansta pimp, mothaf*cker and such.. it's just posing..
