Both new format BRD and HDDVD do not exist commercially right now. They are still arguing and improving their technology. So if you include this in your console, you make production cost higher, chances of faulty hardware higher.
Also you made a point about ease of hacking for the console. But I think that deep down, the ease to copy games and such is one of the main reason (albeit not the only one) the original Playstation started to gain momentum. People were like : "Dude buy a PS you can copy PS games". I know lots of people told me that. My last console is a Sega Genesis thought... I might look into next generation. |

Hahaha i know what you mean when people tell you to but the ps systems because you can burn them games and have the mod to play them. there is also the hard drive but the HD is not for the slim ps2

| That is true now, but back in the days of the first Playstation, you needed nothing to play burned game. Mod chip came later, of course, as new version of the PS poped on the marked with some protection. |

| Yeah the backwards compatibility on the PS 3 is very nice. Its always good to enjoy the old school games. |

| Sony once again will overthrow microsoft in the gaming industry. Sony wil obviously have the advantange. Sone stategically paced the date of the release of the ps3 after the xbox 360 so they could take a look at the xbox 360. If they think microsoft has overdone it they will just delay the ps3 release saying they need to do some last minute changes. |
