halflife two is one of the most realistic game there is i was wonderin if anyone knows about it because its going to be in stores in 2005 Cool

05 is harsh. Ive been keeping up with it in pc gamer magazine. THe latest issue they had a review of it cause they played it at e3. It looks good.

sumtime round early winter last year, some hackers managed to steal like 1/3 of hl2 code. the developement team basically had to start from scratch to replace wat was lost. T_T

yeup, source code leaked. I've been on it for quite some time.. just watching it run away from being released :p

I've seen lots of the demo videos of it.. makes me drool. also really scary though. those huge ass spider things.. and those monsters look so realistic it makes me shudder.

OK, if it weren't for the leak, I coulda seen HL2 in stores back in april - cuz of the leak they had to rewrite a lot of it, such as the network code and the way it renders etc to prevent ppl from having cheats working online the day it hits the stores.

There was no way in hell the game was gonna be ready in time for the september release date - dont ask me how i know.... but err..... *looks around suspiciously* They didnt really have any game material back then, the AI was incredibly lacking (as in nonexistant) and all the levels were only 1/2 complete with placeholder textures all over the place....

In anycase, HL2 is now set for a release before the end of this year (according to valve) and the online store I preordered my copy says its gonna be released in September.

EDIT - also the unoptimised code runs fairly smoothly on an athlon xp 3200+ with 9800pro and 1gb ram (hardrives dont come into it, unless you have less than a couple of gigs free) - again, don't ask how I know this... Razz

. my friend obtained a bit of the leakd stuff off suprnova awhile back. he stuck it in place of his cstrike folder, and it pretty much freekin workd Laughing

all new models, redesignd maps, for the most part. alot of times, a purple/black square grid wuld appear where the wall hadnt been completed yet. *drools, cant wait for official release

yeah graphic-wise i dont think that was their main objective. I think they were going for a more realistic engine. ragdoll phyisics, reacting enviroment. You know to get the game to run like a real world sim.

Well, they need to do something spectaculure, cause WoW,Doom3,Halo2, and many,many more "big" games is about to get released, so I think HL2 will have a hard time anyway, I really loved the WoW beta Wink
