Random Works - Look at the pretties!

I'm in my third year of a visual arts degree, so drawing isnt new to me - but I really like this forum so I decided to post, even though I usually stay away from these things. Its not all fan art, but I hope thats okay.

This one is of Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess - as a child. It looks alittle funky because the gloss of the paint didnt scan right. I did this by hand. In fact, I do all my work by hand, with zero digital.

This was an assignment where I had to reproduce a masters work, and I did a woodblock print by Durer....this inking took me two weeks to do!!! Let me know what you guys think, I love getting feed back.

This is the last one for now, I promise! Sorry its not better quality, i just took a picture of it rather then scanning it.

newayz, i know i'l probably never reach this high of a level of art, since it's just a leisurely thing to me -_-.'" but i'd like to ask, are artistic abilities inate/inherited, or are they acquired? well, its both, but i'd like to know which one plays the most important role (being able to draw, or learning to do it?)

And about if drawing is something someone is just gifted with, or something that is learned - I think it depends on the person. Everyone draws when they are little, I just never stopped doing it. Wink

Its easier for some then for others, but from my experience, and what I have seen in my own work, and my classmates and friends, you just need an interest in the area and the desire to improve. I like to think that anyone can learn to draw - some people just need more practice or more help from others. Drawing isnt something that I'm great at to be honest, all I ever drew was fan art, and I had never drawn a real person until we had nude models in our classroom! (Needless to say, I wasnt very good at it). But I can do it now, it just took me three years, and I'm still really far away from the level I should be at considering I'm doing a visual arts degree. I've noticed that as people pick up drawing, the more they do it, the more they improve - it just seems that some people are only able to take it so far and cannot continue to improve on their own - lessons and studies help more than anything. Once you get the basics down, it gets much easier. If you want to learn to draw well, you have to beable to branch out into realism, and not just fan art. When you only work on fanart, you tend to fall into a trap and cant get out of it. Well, I did anyway. Learn regular proportions first, then transfer that to anime and its easier.
Well, thats only my opinion, I'm sure lots of people would argue with it. Smile

Sorry my reply was so long! Heres a sketch I did last year that wasnt fan art. Sorry about the quality, again, instead of scanning them in, I took pictures cuz its quicker!

I like the belldandy one very wow hahaha because will i wouldnt have known that you did it by hand until i look at it a little bit closer. It was done by hand but looked so real and i thought for a second you did it on computers. The paint was very well done i believe hahaha these are no regular works here.

well....its got a funny texture on top of it, almost like a funky grid, because of the glare from the scanner. I'll have to get a better copy of it, because if thats not there it looks alot better. Thanks though!

Oh, and fanart is really fun to draw, I love it, and you should keep that up too, but that shouldn't be the ONLY thing that you are capable of drawing. Very Happy
