there are thousands of pirate servers all over the place!! one of them is ro.elementh.net

all free and they have great people too... played for 4 years and got bored... so i switched to ROSE and played for 3 hours... then i killed myself b/c i was that bored... someone give me a good server to play on

You people who scold those who pay act as if 12$ a month is alot of money.

I played IRO too long to play seriously on a private server. Private servers are also pretty f-ed up. They lag alot if you have too many people and the monster CRIT is horribly high. Monster placement patches are not in and you get stun locked by 1 enemy with slow ass aspd. The delay on servers is also low and some of the rates of private servers are horribly high. Most servers have a max level of 255 which just makes certain classes too godly to comprehend. People also whine about how slow they level when it would probably take them 1 week on 1x server to get 1 level rather than getting 2082083 levels a week.

But yeah, I quit IRO so whatever!

Started playing a few month back. It started as something to fill the time till World of Warcraft was released. Well, WoW was released, and I'm still playing iRO. I dunno, I just like the feel of iRO better. And I agree that the game can be totally addictive. I'll admit, it diud start to get borring, but things changed when I joined a guild. When you start to have a circle of friends, the true meaning or MMORPG comes to light.

I have been playing since one month about before RO went pay to play and i continued to play. I dont play as often now becasue afeter 2 years the game gets boring however i do enjoy War of Emperium and am waiting to reborn my knight into Lord Knight or whatever it is called! I am Davidy on Chaos server. if i am on, you can usually find me over by the flower girl on Prontera.

i love this game...i used to play for awhile before it went to pay... i dont want to pay...why cant they just let ppl play for free... this is just mean soo really mean and unfair..but u do have a point $12 bucks is not alot for a month but still

any amount of money for a game is outrageous when you can find a perfectly acceptable replacement for FREE... and private servers aren't all that bad... some of them have 1000x drop / exp rates... and you can go up to level 225/70.... why wouldn't you wanna make godlike characters? its all for fun anyways lol

Well, to try and describe Ragnarok's gameplay, I guess I can compare it to Diablo's use of the mouse. On a personal note, I can say that at first, you'll level up on your own, and while the skills are quickly coming in, you'll have the motivation to go on. Later, when the leveling up slows down, what'll make the game worth it is the interaction with other people. I found Ragnarok's community to be one of the best. And trust me, the moment you join a guild, everything'll change. Heh, and if you're an anime fan, the overall theme here will be just right for you.

Getting a 255/70 instant cast High Wiz to spam SG during WoE is very, very fun, albeit requires constant mouse clicking.

Instant High Priest (or near instant anyway...) to spam Sanctuary on the Emp is even better when under heavy fire ^_^

Private servers are good in that they are free, and most likely have very high rates to expedite leveling.

Of course, you have to find a good server with an adequate (ie You can talk to them and do stuff like WoE'ing) number of amiable and intelligent (semi-intelligent is ok ^^) people, one hopefully free of bots (unless if you plan to bot yourself...) and has good GMs.

Disconnects and lag is always an issue, too.

Having a God Like character is nice for a private server. The current appeal for me is the War of Emperium guild wars. I havent been as into it lately but it really is fun when you are constantly fighting enemy guilds week after week, blasting through other less contended forts and trying to hold it until the end, and of course the massive wars you have when the giant alliances clash in the base forts!

I liked ragnarok, but disliked the lack of plot development and excessive lvling. I think when I played, the funnist time I had was with my first character and becoming a thief (I was noob leave me alone)

I would recomend trying the game for real and paying for it for a few, when your a vet I would go play on the private servers for the hell of it, or make your own and lan party it with some friends (and beer, lots of beer)

private servers have a certain illegal(which peeps like to argue) or at least ethical problems which some may find a good reason not to go on them.
