Suzaku and Byakko

The phoenix Suzaku and the white tiger Byakko are the two most commonly used spiritual creatures (sometimes reffered to as gods) used in anime, wich have origins in real mythology.

Suzaku is usually associated with south, and Byakko with west
(to complete the 4 corners there is a dragon in the east and a turtle/snake in the north)

So besides Fushigi Yuugi, where we find Suzaku, wich anime also features one or both of these entities?

If you know of any, you`re free to mention the other two as well, just don`t list every anime that has a turtle, snake or a dragon, but only if they appear as the spiritual creatures I described above Very Happy

In Yami no Matsuei. Suzaku's human form is a woman, that's quite different from Fushigi Yuugi.

Byakko is a lazy bum who likes to sleep. (same goes to his master, Suzuki).

Suzaku and Byakko, as well as Seiryu and Genbu appear in Yu Yu Hakusho as the four Saint Beasts

They're also mentioned very briefly in 'X,' I think, as well as in an episode of 'Cowboy Bebop' (the Feng Shui episode).

East - Cyan Dragon - Seiryu
South - Phoenix - Suzaku
West - White Tiger - Byakko
North - Dragon Turtle - Genbu

Center - Kirin

The Guardian Beasts can be found in anime typically dealing with Japanese ( or Chinese - who are the ones the Japanese took the concept from ) mythology.

One current show involving the Guardian Beasts is Izumo, which have all the Guardian Beasts in female humanoid form.

ok, I know this doesn`t count, but I remember because the porcelain pelican (it was supposed to be suzuku) broke in abenobashi, all hell broke loose Smile
