That was one impressive episode there.
I never expected that to happen (i haven't been reading the manga). He was such a cool guy as well!
Depressing? yes
Overly Tragic? no. He was a soldier, many people die as we see in the series. Just not such a major character like him. Oh well.
Looking forward to more FMA. Never fails to impress me. |

I agree .. he was the most likeable character in that entire anime. But he was pretty impressive in his own right with those daggers
When his daughter was crying .. dang .. that was sad ... why him!!
But this just goes to emphasize how good (great) this anime is. The main characters are not invincible.
This anime just keeps on getting better .. and depending on the ending, it may surpass SEED in my books. |

Yup, when I first saw this in the manga I was shocked too (even though I didn't know what the heck they were talking about). I think I was even more shocked when I read the manga actually. Since I was half expecting him to come back to life or something, but that was impossible in the anime since they showed the funeral scene so quickly. Nevertheless it's a good scene.
Anyway, I guess I wasn't shocked because they killed such an important character but by the fact that it's done so early in the series when he has yet to really make his mark. Oh well, like Kaiser said, soldiers die, and I guess by now I should've been used to seeing this kind of death where a very likeable character dies early. |

Seems a little odd that they spent so much time developing
Hughes
and then just kill him off in mid series. I still think well see more of him. If not then it was a bad move to spend so much time developing him.
EDIT: Spoiler AK |

Developing an attachment between a character destined to die and the audience isn't really a bad thing AngelKing... it's a very effective way to guide the viewers emotions. I mean, hell, if we never cared for any of the characters that died in a story... that would be pretty pointless. That would be equivalent to... an Arnold Schwarzenager movie.... _________________ You can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket. |

| That's not what I meant, I don't have a problem with main characters dying. I have a problem with main characters dying in the middle of the story. If a character is going to receive as much screen time and development as Hughes did, he should at least die closer tot he climax of the story. |

but this event would further the plot into a more interesting story. _________________

Well
from the manga... The whole thing seems a bit pointless actually, since nothing really happens because of his death... And the next arc doesn't have too much to do with the main story either

You don't have to have immediate effects to be shown. The Elrics & Winry have to go back to Central sooner or later. Or they will meet someone from Central.
Mustang's motives have also been deepened.
Though this time they have killed off a component (no not Hughes, someone else) necessary for Mustang's involvement in later parts (manga plot).
Roy would be more involved then in the anime investigating Hughes death as well. |

I saw the raw for #26 and it seems very interesting. Anyway the new songs are really great, but I still think the first OP and second ED is best. Basically my favs go:
OP: 1st, 3rd, 2nd
ED: 2nd, 1st/3rd tied
But no doubt...ALL of them are really really good.
btw...where is the manga in compared to the anime? |

| Don't rely too much on the manga now. But if you wish to know, for Edward & gang, they are about to start chapter 17. Scar's story however has already covered chapter 26. |
