That is weird, I have never heard of RAM being reduced by half after upgrading. Check your memory usage through the Task Manager and make sure your computer is clean of virus/spyware. These nasty stuff can take up a large amount of memory.
I have a site which may help explain your problem:

Your RAM is reduced by HALF???!!!! That is the first time I've heard of such thing.
Maybe you can check your RAM connection in your motherboard and see whether your RAM detected is correct. If you are suspicious of any spywares interfering, maybe you can check your RAM size in the BIOS. They are more reliable. _________________
