FF7 was the only FF that had an amazing plot. The others had good and great plots but lacked what FF7 had. I think Ocarina of Time was a great game too. Fire Emblem didn't get released in the US until recently, but it's awesome. Earthbound and FF3 (FF6 in Japan) were the best for SNES. I think those are all my favorites...

My favorite games has to be the madden series, i love playing football on computer, it's one of the only games that makes me want to play for a long time.
Madden nfl 2004 was the best one, with many more to come in the later years.
It blows my mind to think of what the ff series will be doing in ten years. Crazy.
It doesn't really blow my mind... it disappoints me. I mean you start with the FF series on NES, and you had something pretty fun. As you went on (4, 5, 6) you kept getting better and better games. Then they released 7, and it was absolutely groundbreaking. It blew just about any other RPG out of the water. Final Fantasy 7 was the climax of the FF series. Currently, we're experiencing the "denoument" of the series, which is really just laid back and resolves anything that was left behind. FF8 had a rather engrossing story, but the "draw" system, combined with submenus within submenus within submenus within submenus, just made it rather tedious to play. This was the first FF game on the PSX that allowed for the option to stop fighting random battles, so I guess that was pretty cool... FF9 wasn't all too bad, but the story was just far too predictable for my liking. Battle system wasn't too bad, and they fixed the complex menu system, so I was happy about that. FF10 was just a LONG storybook, filled with predictable plot twists and annoying characters. The Sphere system was pretty cool, seeing as it introduced a brand new concept into the FF series (that actually allowed for your characters to develop as similar/different as you wanted them to). FF:CC was actually rather fun, but it got tiresome after a very short time. Interesting setting, unique battle system (at least for an FF game), and a rather large selection of characters to play as.
With the trend that the FF series has followed, I really don't think Square/Enix is going to release anything as "groundbreaking" as FFVII was. They are just fresh out of ideas, so they're recycling what's already been used. Really, I don't blame them though. I mean there is just so much you can think up before it's already been used, then you have to start reverting to previous ideas/concepts and it just gets old.
For the most part, the FF series has kept me entertained on the SNES and the PSX. But the new FF titles they're releasing just aren't as enjoyable for me. FF8-11 + Crystal Chronicles were just disappointments to me, and I'm rather disturbed that they continue to follow the same trends time and time again.
Oh well, onto my favorite games
NES: Zelda (1+2), Super C, Monster Party, Bomberman (any of them), Final Fantasy 3
SNES: Final Fantasy (4-6), Contra 3, Donkey Kong Country (1+2), Zelda: LttP, Seiken Densetsu (2+3), Breath of Fire (1+2), Chrono Trigger, Lufia (1+2), Inindo.... Come to think of it, most RPGs
PSX: Final Fantasy (7+Tactics), Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3, Metal Gear Solid, Suikoden (1+2)
N64: Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64

well your right about a recent downgrade in quality. X and x-2 are good games though. Better than 8-9. its just that in bout like a year i think theyll release ps3 and well get a new ff and depending, it.. might be a good game. Theyll get us some quality stuff.
Well, to just about any of the game developers out there, quality = graphics. That's all we've really been getting in terms of the recent games. I mean of all the games that have been released on the PS2 within the past year, how many are ACTUAL hits? Not many... The rest were just made for the sake of either benefitting from a name, continuing a series, or just trying something new. However, most of the major game developers feel that graphics are the most important factor of a game, so they don't put as much thought/effort into the game.
Perhaps this analogy might make my rambling a bit more coherent:
Take your feces and sugar coat it. At first it might seem sweet, but in the end all you have is a piece of crap. _________________
Thank you KARMA!!! Finally, a group of gamers that all don't praise FF7 like it was the Bible! It was not the "Super Omega End-All Be-All Game" (true quote) that everyone made it out to be.
Not to start a war, IMHO, Final Fantasy VI was by far the best. The characters were so memorial ("How goes the robbing and plundering trade, theif?" "!!! I prefer to be called a TREASURE HUNTER!!!") and there was no "right" party to use. You could, after a certain point in the game, save all or none of your characters, thus allowing a great amount of exploring and variations! I believe there were 15 playable characters if memory serves right, and they were all fleshed out as well as Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie were, and thats not even including the enemies! Kefka, General Leo, even the two grunts of Kefka had a personality! (Kefka: Why does stupid king Edgar's Castle lie out in the stupid desert? (looks down) There are sand on my shoes! ( looks at two guards) I SAID, there are SAND on my SHOES! (both guards panic, and quickly clean his shoes, then salute.))
Sorry if i went a little overboard, but this is a great game, second to none. There are stroy points that even I forgot after playing the game 12 times though with no less than 99 hours on the timer! Either this game is deep, or I'm very forgetful... and I'm pretty sure its both.
Sorry to go off on a rant, though, just trying to prove a point.
P.S. Please don't flame me. I really liked FFVII. I just think FFVI eclipsed it.
i like Disgaea for PS2 a lot. it gets repetitive when u play over 100 and the story sux but the battles are awesome. its the best stategy rpg im my opinion. much better than FF tactics.
