just watched it yesterday... and i really liked it more than spirited away... maybe its because there is romance involve =)

This movie is actually more profound and deep than it actually looks. It isnt just about love, its also about finding your heart, your path in life, your courage, your beauty within and etc. Lots of morality, philosophical lessons in here

One thing i like about Miyazaki's work is that he brings out the magical fantasy like feeling in the movies he directs. And This movie stands out in that area. It gave me the eager/anticipated/child-like happy feeling when i was watching this movie. Overall, i love this movie and am hoping for more from Studio Ghibli in the future =)

However, there's 1 thing i'm trying to figure out. Towards the end, sophie's hair turned white, and her face isn't of the old woman but her own young face. Is there suppose to be a meaning in that? Or is it just the spell wearing off...
When wizards/witches look at her, they can see her true appearence which has black hair. But it seems later on, her face revert back to normal except her hair Confused

I saw it the other day and it was so-so. I'm kinda getting tired of the same kind of quirky miyazaki characters in all these movies. I thought Mononoke was amazing, then spirited away was good but not as good as mononoke, then this howl comes out and its a good movie and all, but no spirited away. Ghibli's next movie better be a step up.

I've heard mixed results on this movie. But for the most part, it seems pretty decent but not as good as Spirited Away...

I'm not too sure my self, but I have a few theories. I think that her looking younger is her bending the spell. She can't break it with will power alone, but when she is happy and isn't so preoccupied with her curse, she looks younger again. For example, when she and Howl are in the field of flowers she looks young again until she starts acting all depressed, at which point she visibly ages again. She doesn't look old when she sleeps either, or when she wakes up in the night to check on Howl. Basicaly I think that the curse relies on her mind and her thinking about being old like one of the old Superman or JLA comics when Lex Luthor tricks Superman into thinking that he is a kid again.
Or (as cliche as it sounds) it could be the power of love because she seems to look younger whenever she is around Howl or worried about him.
Whatever the true meaning is, I'm just glad that they didn't dub it. ^_^

I thought the movie was pretty good, but was it just me, or did the ending kinda suck? It was great for a while, and then all of the sudden the movie crashes to a halt, adandoning all reason in a race to reach a conclusion. It was like Miyazaki wanted to hurry up and get it finished. Don't get me wrong, I loved the rest of the movie, but the ending just seemed kinda weak.

Ghibli rarely needs to step up, because it has its name to hid behind. Whenever they do break new ground, the movie comes out amazing. My favourite movie is still Nausicaa, and I have found that every other Miyazaki movie afterwards has been imitations.

Nausicaa broke new ground because it was Miyazaki's first movie. I was also impressed with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Mononoke was Miyazaki's first attempt at something mature, and it did fairly well. Spirited Away was ground breaking because it had a previous film to build on. Miyazaki's previous movie to Spirited Away was The Cat Returns which feels so much like a Spirited Away 'rough draft'.

Howl? I thought it was good, but that was because of the studio. Amazing? I doubt it.

If it's from Ghibli, nine times out of ten it'll be good.

It's the only one (Ghibli release) I've been able to see in a theater, & it was fantastic.

Just saw it last night.

Wonderful animation, on par, maybe even better than princess monoke. Howl's moving castle has go breathtaking colours and scenery.

But damn, The movie showed way too much witch of the waste, made me feel sick(exaggeation of course) seeing that whacked marshmallow so much.

As for the other criteria...well im afraid to say that im a member of the minority here, in the sense that i believe that in terms of storyline development and character development, this installemnt by ghibli disappointed.

To explain why i feel this way, i challenge you to answer the following questions:

1)How did the war start? Who benefited from this war, that was so easily put to rest to end by madam saluman.

2)Who turned that prince into a scarecrow, and why was that person benefited from this?

3)Why is the witch of the waste so obsessed with howls's heart?

4)Why did how decide to randomly swallow this random thing that fell form teh sky that happend to be calcifer?

6)WTH!?!?!?!??! was calcifer randomly flying in the sky neway? i feel that whole "agreement, pact, watever" between calcifer and howl was much too neglected seeing as the storyline leant so heavily upon this agreement.

i assure you, there are many more questions i hav in mind. Sure, its not like you can expect a moive to explain everything, if a movie explained everysingle factor im sure it would be damn boring. But howl's moving castle introduced so many strings and left the ends of many of those strings untied. If some of these questions were explained within the movie, i admit fault on my part for not paying adequate attention.

Still, the movie is most definitely worht a watch and even a dvd purchase becuase the focus on romance is nice and the animation is simply breathtaking. I just believe that other installments by studio ghibli were better.
