I finished the serie some hours ago, and here are now my 2 cents of wisdom concerning the end ..
There seems to be some confusion about where Yukito went and whether he was the crow and such. I think this all makes sense under one condition, that the possible incarnations of a soul do not neccessarily have to be only within the lifetime of a distinct individual at one time, or in other words: that a soul can inhabit only one body within a certain period of time. Hence some sort of 'overlapping' is possible, granting the soul to gather experience from different perspectives, as in the case of Yukito and the crow respectively the young boy at the beach.
The confusing thing is that there is no clear explanation whatsoever why there is a sudden change from Yukito to the crow Sora. The story makes only sense if you are capable of thinking in terms of parallel but nevertheless causal existence. My guess is: Yukito -> Sora -> Boy at the beach.
It is revealed at some point that Yukito's doll has stored the magical power (of previous generations) to make a wish come true. When Yukito kneels before Misuzu's bed and holds her hand, he wishes from the depths of his heart to start anew and this time save Misuzu (former Kanna). Then the doll emits a bright light and from then on, Yukito is gone. The crow Sora takes his place and this is where salvation of Misuzu (Kanna) can actually begin.
In the end Sora says that he is going to search for the lonely girl with wings in the sky, and I assume that he actually finds her. This is not clarified, but implicitly must be so regarding the boy at the beach and what he has to say at the end. At that time, all 3 perspectives/'incarnations' if you like, are at the same spot, not knowing they are one and the same. Confusing at first , I know.
I think this overlapping-of-incarnations means of storytelling is a very nice thing, because one has to adopt a different (parallel-causal) view of things to fully understand what the heck is going on.

blinkgdl, there should be a 2nd season of Air, but I think it won't be out anytime soon. Isn't there sort of a trailer after the last episode of Air? Or am I wrong about this?

Nono, I think that was just the summer special. They are releasing one more episode to explain the likes of puberty to kanna. Remember in epsiode 13 when Kanna asked Ryuuka "I know this is embarassing but... Can I see your" and it tracks off next screen. From what I've read, the 14th episode will conclude on this, but the original anime already ended so I doubt there will be a season 2.
Most people don't see the elegance of this anime, because the plot is so deep and touching. Its because its like this, people don't understand and give the casual response "good animation, no story... rating: 2". It shows that not all people understand all aspects of anime well.

..but what happens then? what happened to Yukito (or watever his name was hehe)..........and all that repetitions of the same event, through diff perspective???................ hehehe. though i love the animation/graphics, the storylien itself stumped me.
When Yukito embraced Misizu's hand in her room in episode 8, he wished for Misizu to get better, and that his wish was granted. Yukito was salvaged into a crow and overwatched the events that unfolded. He turned into the crow to be the "overlooker" of what Misizu does. In the end, you see a little boy with the girl who went to see what was beyond the shoreline, again that was presumed to be Yukito. It was all in the cycle of life, I suppose. When you die, you get reincarnated into a being (a crow because it symbolizes death), then after he becomes a child again. The repition of events were to give Misizu a second chance so she would be better and not carry the burden of dreaming of the winged girl in the sky.
Seems like people don't like the ending, eh? Well hopefully the movie will pick something up. It was a touching anime indeed. Sad, though. _________________
I love this anime.it really touches my heart .i really pity mizuho because she never really had friend in the past or present.its really sad that could never get real close to anyone without getting a frenzy and that Yukito had to change into that crow.
its a sad story about her and the people arond her.by the way,i knew those 2 kids had to do something with the story and the icon of AIR.
Can someone tell me,is this the same people who made Kanon ?cause the drawing is kindda the same,so is the story. _________________ In the darkest shadow, there will always be a light to guide you.

Air is really a masterpiece. Both the tecnical quality and the great history are great. And the atmosphere is marvelous too. Is like a dream. Its a true beautiful anime. its now one of my favorites.
By the way, yes, its based in a game of KEY. They are famous for the beautiful, touching and sad histories of their games. Another games from KEY are Kanon (yes, adapted to the animation too), Clannad and the beautiful Planetarian. (Thanks to Insani we can enjoy this touching story in English now).
In the ending, as I see it, the two boys are the new incarnations of Kanna and the Samurai. The curse has not been broken so the circle is still running. But if they are together being childs, maybe this time Kana could be saved from the curse.
Anyways, a beautiful anime... _________________
Suikoden 2, a great RPG!
i realy like the anime
the animation is so cool
its a really fresh anime
but i not like the end
a movie?
a 2nd season?
someone can respond the cuestion?!!!!!!
It comes August 25th I believe, the movie on DVD release in Japan.
I believe normal package is 6800 Yen, and the specials are 9800 Yen. This is information is solely gotten from AnimeSuki, but I'll be saving for the special. A true tribute to AIR.. Hurrah!
Doesn't someone have to buy them for everyone else to get them free?
Anyway, I finished this series and I don't think the crow thing was a reincarnation. Think about it, when everything was going on, Sora was never there. I think when Sora reappeared all the events to see Yukito(himself) and Misuzu go through all those conversations so Sora can be the next generation to look for the sad girl in the sky because since Yukito basically disappeared, how was he going to have everyone continue looking for her? _________________
