Have you ever considered reading slice of life mangas? Some are aqua, aria, genshiken, and yokohama kaidashi kiko.

nice, I was looking for something like this too. I really loved Death Note which is imo a more "mature" story than other manga of the sort.

saikano the anime was definatly mature, so i can't see how the manga would not be either, however don't read or watch this if you don't want to be depressed

There is graphic sex and violence in both of these; more so disturbing than that of gantz, but both mangas are interesting and a challenging read.
