If you read the manga, something huge happens after the contest in europe. Azuma does something really really cool and fakes that he's oblivious, but it's pretty clear that he knows exactly what he did.

surprised no one mentioned the time Kuroyanagi tried to kiss the Meister. Yes this manga makes the guys seem a bit homosexual at some points. I think that the mangaka is just poking fun at how uncomfortable straight are when we appear homosexual. Its pretty damn funny.

The gayness that surrounds Kuroyanagi is quite hilarious though, but I do believe that there is hardly any homosexuality shown for them all. When Azuma hugs Kawachi, it doesn't mean he likes him in THAT sort of way....Have you ever heard of hugs from good friends? It's just a way of showing friendship for the other person, though different people might mean different things in this case... Laughing

On the thing about giving the ring to Tsukino: Yeah he's just clueless. That's what so funny and cute about him. But it would be interesting to see later if he gets to know the significance of his action... Wink

He's just too shy to do it directly is all.

I'll wait until the anime shows us the scene, though - it will be clear then what really went on.

Oh - he's not getting out of it in any case - what's he possibly going to do if he was clueless and finds out later? Heh.

Re-reading it again, especially after the story about the ring and so on, it's clear that he knows all about its signifigance. He was at the beach and made a definite decision to go over to her(the panel before), then told her the whole story about it. He also didn't hand it to her - he put it on her.

I re-re-read it and it's actually quite funny. We definately was proposing to her, no question about it. The thing is, she thought it was a sign of friendship at first. He did everything but ask her directly(he's not *that* blunt), right down to the other two guys getting into it.

She was "um... something's not right..." (talk talk talk) "um... but... (talk about being there for her and the significance of the ring) "but..." (talk talk convince)... "But... the silly baka put it on the wrong... ..." (hears Azuma being asked by the others as he is walks away "is that acceptable?"(the manga translation fails to impart that they are asking him if it's more than "okay" with him - it implies being satisfied with his decision that he just made)

...

Then she gets it.

It never dawned on her that mr. can't find his way around a kitchen, late everywhere, and as dense that petalite board he made actually was acting like a man for once. Heh. She was the one who was caught off-guard this time. Smile

I like your reasoning Plekto, but shouldn't this be in another thread? lolx..no offense meant, considering this thread is talking about homosexuality in yakitate japan (though I don't like this thread much)...

no all japanese is not homosexual... its just anime that makes us laugh... and Japan is more open these days like U.S or any where...
