i know this sounds weird but i want metal slug series to be made into an anime...its interesting to see how the guns and characters would look close up
Okay, being a huge Xenosaga fan I have to step in and lay things out in a very clear and ordered manner for everyone to follow.
Way back in 1998, for the PS1, Xenogears was released, which was basically the final chapter in the whole "Xeno" series, but much like how Star Wars came out with Episode 4-6 first because they were the most interesting and easiest to follow, they went with that.
Finally, in 2002, the franchise is revived, and Xenosaga is released. It was a beautiful and DEEP game, but really did not appeal to everyone back then. Cries of "What do you mean this is a game? It's just some walking around with a bunch of cutscenes and the occasional battle. It's not a game, it's a movie!" And so, the game didn't do quite as well as the producers hoped, but it still did well enough that when Toei Animation decided they wanted to buy the rights to make an anime out of it, they went with it.
Well now, Toei didn't exactly do a bad job with it, but with a director that had nothing to do with the game or the original concept at all, and an entirely different character designer from the game... for the people that played the game (probably most of the people that bothered to watch the anime) they were given something so incredibly inferior to the game, it would be better to forget the anime even existed. It's simply just not worth watching when you can play the game which already has animation and voice acting, so it's not like comparing an Anime to a Manga.
Following the success of the first game, they went into production of the second game with a rather large fanbase and budget (to be released in 2004). Meanwhile, the Original writer/creator Tetsuya Takahashi stepped down from his position of Director and Arai Kou took his place. Trying to cater to those people who wanted more of a game, and less of an interactive movie, they cut out nearly all of the deep existential and philosophical content... and basically dumbed down the whole story, leaving a LOT of things that happened completely unexplained or disjointed. Not to mention the battles took such a rediculous amount of time, as with the "GS Campaign" sidequests that even if you are able to follow the story, if you try to accomplish everything in the game, you'll spend 2 or 3 hours between every story section you're bound to forget what's going on, or lose any emotional impact.
The game basically bombed, to the point where people were losing hope in there even being a 3rd game (when there were originally 4 or more planned for the Xenosaga series). Making an anime series from the second game would probably be just asking to lose money, even if what happens is important to the overall storyline.
Finally in 2006, Xenosaga 3 came out, which they decided to make the final concluding game in the series. Now, in my personal opinion, I'd have to say Xenosaga 3 is one of the best games I've ever played, and well worth slaving through the second game... but it's obvious from the very beginning that they could have made a completely seperate game just based off the events that happened between the second and third games... but you only get to read about them as you play.
While I wouldn't mind watching an anime of Episode 3, it was so beautifully done as a game, I don't particularly see the point of it since they'd probably pale in comparison to the game, like what happened to Episode 1. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing Xenogears (supposedly taking place after the events of the Saga, or perhaps in an alternate future... jury's still out on that one) being made into an anime.
I hope that clears up a lot of things about Xenosaga and Xenogears for y'all.
Reading through the thread, there were a good number of posts regarding the Xenosaga game and anime that sounded rather uninformed, or just unsure about certain facts. Being the rabid Xenosaga fan that I am, I couldn't let that slide so I explained it all in a simplified manner. I admit it's a slight derailing from the original topic, but it was still relative to the thread. heh

I, for one, actually preferred it like that. I'm not much of a gamer though, so I'm probably coming at it from a different angel. At least they fixed that problem with the save-points in the second game... they were way too far spread out in the first installment.

I still think that compared alongside other anime coming out these days, the animation was pretty sub-standard. Colors were bright, yet flat and attention to detail was pretty lax. If XenoSaga fans are looking for a good epic sci-fi anime, I would recommend "Stellvia of the Universe."

when I said this was like comparing anime and manga, I meant because of the differences in media. Obviously all three (video games being the third) have similarities and differences that can be used both as pros and cons. Between anime and VGs, they both have animation and sound, but whereas VGs are interactive, anime series are observe-only. I could go on, but that's beside the point.

it was originally supposed to be 6. A few months after the first game was released here in the US, they annonced that they were cutting the series in half.

I stopped playing halfway through cause I wasn't a fan of the new character-design. They wanted to make the character look "more human"-like while I preferred the anime style. If you say the third game is really worth it, maybe I'll get around to finishing the 2nd.
..v-boi2002: my fault mostly, heehee, I was egging on all the other people who kept saying they wanted to see a xenosaga anime even though there already is one available. Question now is will it be released in the US. anyway, thanks for your input Zierlyn, I'm sure it'll prove helpful to those who don't the whole story _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
lets see, for the original Megaman there is a series of it its pretty old though, and Dead or Alive is going to be a movie i think. _________________ [IMG:500:150:3e2c4a5c69]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/-Illyria-/Signatures%20I%20made/Bleachsig.jpg[/img:3e2c4a5c69]

I don't know if anyone said this already but I would like to see an anime Zelda! Also, an anime movie of Halo would be awesome!
It would be cool if they came out with a video game for Fate Stay Night where if you win as any other character rather than Saber, it'll show an alternative ending. That would be cool! _________________ I am power driven by determination. I'm adversity that you will never overcome once you're my enemy. I am all there is and every will be. Zelda, I know it has been a cartoon in the old times...but I want it to be a anime but having a great arist draw them. Because in the cartoon..they really don't look good at all.. _________________ [img:233:120:f2a749bf82]http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o294/Tears90/haruhi13019mv.gif[/img:f2a749bf82]
I'd vote for Final Fantasy X, X-2, and most recently XII. I'd enjoy any of them, and having two series like where X would lead into X-2 would be neat. Especially if the animation was as good as the games themselves.
