Has anyone recently decided to learn japanese and the written kanji? Can anyone recommend some books that theyve found helpful/good? I think i want to have a go at learning a little bit. The plan is to go and stay with some friends i made at uni during next years golden week ! |

| I was already learning Japanese when I started reading manga and stuff. There are some pretty cool CD's that I bought called Pimsleurr (not sure how to spell it but thats close) That you can learn how to talk in conversations. They teach you single words then how to say them in sentences. Other than that just buy a japanese english dictionary. My friend is teaching me how to read and right is. And before you go learning Kanji Just learn Hirigana and Katakana because in mangas off to the right a bit on Kanji characters there is a hirigana so even Japanese elementary schoolers can read it. |

If you have 13 GB of hard disc space to spare, then you can learn Japanese by torrents.

Yeah, I'm gonna be taking a japanese class this fall in college...
I'm really excited yet really nervous. All I've heard from people when I've told them I'm taking it is how tough it is. At least my advisor was happy for me...he said since I was sooo enthusiastic to learn it I could take it!
So no recommendations on specific books or anything to buy/check out to get me started? _________________

Learning by computer? Not fun at all. Should be studying Jap with friends, and with a Jap teacher! |

| I've been trying to learn from my computer, but I think it would be better to just take a class at the college. It's like learning any other language, it's better to learn from someone who knows what they're doing. |
