Animation is flawless, background beautiful. Sometimes characters don't blend in right so much the background's a beautay, still cool. Story is wack~.
I doubt you'll regret downloading it. _________________ "A lullaby to close our eyes, goodbye." |

I've been anxiously awaiing for this to come out. The animation is beautiful. The story is a very subtle love story. It is so subtle, in fact that you really don't know what is really going on unless yu watch the whole thing.
I think one reason why it seemed short was the way Shinkai tells his story. It is presented in many clips, beginning and ending with narration. Each clip is short and they are linkied together in order to unfold the story. I liked this and it added to the subtle emotion of the movie.
Reagarding the characters, they were not, in my opinion quite developed well, but that's okay because, again, everything is sort of subtle.
No question about it though, the animation is fantastic. The backgrounds are brilliant, and the aircraft and machinery sequences, though few, are awesome. Elegant too.
This is definitely a must see. I guess for this, Shinkai didn't do it all by hmimself like Voices of a Distant Star, but man, what talent! |

Worth watching if not just for the gorgeous animation. Yes, lots and lots of eye candy in this movie. Every little detail of the backround and characters is rendered as to create a erie sense of reality. (If our world consisted only of pastels =P). Oh man, the blood on the cockpit was viciously cool....
Unfortunately, the story was the ever popular "save the planet","what's the nature of existence?" "are we living in the real world" archetype that spawns from that post-WWII disilusionment in japanese society Hoshi no Koe had a greater sense of emotion. I can't say I had an emotional attachment to any of the characters.... I was kind of dissapointed no one died =P.... where's the drama... the premise was kind of cool though.... it was just the writing that killed it.... perhaps they should have focused on just one event instead of trying to do to much in 90 mins.
Anyway I'm looking towards the future, and eagerly awaiting whatever Makoto Shinkai decides to do next. |

Ahh, same creator as Voice of a Distant Star. Thought it had the same flow.
Btw, don't miss VoaDS either (KAA's got an excellent encode If I remember). Movie leaves you "bs gimme more." _________________ "A lullaby to close our eyes, goodbye." |

The movie's really good. I'm sorta in a hurry and everyone seems to have said the good points that I wanted to (although the lightning in the clouds in the beginning when they're all together was really really cool.. couldn't stop staring at it so I had to go back to read the subs :X) I'll just go over the points that I thought lacked.
The very end seemed to suddenly have choppy animation. This didn't detract too much-it seemed to be some sorta abstract thing like a mini epilogue (since it seemed like the movie ended just before that point-and when that happened I was like "WHAT!!? NO!")
And then.. I was wondering if anyone had volume problems? I had to turn my speaker volume pretty high and my player max in order to hear stuff.
But yes, the movie's absolutely brilliant, stunning, wonderful, uh.. good. :p _________________

hmm... i didn't have a problem with the sound... btw: i watched it using VLC(video lan) ...um i checked the stream and media info on vlc while i played it and it says "codec: a52" for audio... vlc supports/has this codec by default....
I then opened it with window media player X and i had no problems with the sound again... this time the codec was "AC3filter" which you can get if u google it... though i doubt thats the only one that works....
Advice: vlc is nice to have since it supports/has codecs for a myraid of file types (mkv,ogm,etc)... google it =P |

I tried it with VLC (I have it but use it rarely) and yeah, the sound comes out much louder, although I still have to crank up the volume a little.
thanks for the help :p _________________

Wow, I just watched this movie and I gotta say its pretty awesome. The animation really left me in awe (especially in the few action scenes they had). Also the subtle love story is somewhat touching although somehow it seemed rushed a bit.
Great movie, worth the somewhat long download time. |
