Yes, that scene is from Pulp Fiction. I wanted Van to whip out his sword, and say "What does the sword say?!" "Erhm.... Bad Mother Fucking Sword." "That's right!" or something.
Personally, I like it. It reminds me of a lot of different genres and I think it is intetionally cheesy. Especially since every episode has ties into other famous TV shows. The double episode is from the original Star Trek, the power rangers is Power Rangers, the Love Bunny (or whatever) is Pulp Fiction. I mean, I don't think that the series can stand on its own two feet because of the emulation of the different genres and movies/tv.
I too am really liking the show. For me the animation and style really sells it. It does remind me of a number of other really great shows in a good way. The plot doesn't seem like a knock off.
Newtype USA did review on GunxSword in their most current issue. I think might be the January issue (it has Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist on the cover). They say it's licensed and should be coming soon on DVD. It looks to be a great anime filled with action, comedy, and a look-a-like Spike from Cowboy Bebop as the main character.
I don't know about you but I downloaded the SHRIMPS 17-26 pack.
GUNxSWORD is so freakin awesome, I don't know how you don't like it, unless you're the kind of person who a) Doesn't like mecha, b) Want's a 100% action anime with no story, no conflicts between characters, etc.
I love Dann and Saudade's design, as well as Vann, Carmen99, and the El Dorado gang, as well as Yukiko. I also like that slutty woman who piloted Dahlia of Wednesday
