|

Canada just pass the bill that legalize the gay marriage. Of course, some are happy about this, some are ok with this, and some are furious about this. To me, I don't think it is as such a devilish thing as some people (mainly Christians) descirbe them as. Well, they do have their right to choose who they want to share their lives with. I think those christians are just too, well, a bit too stubborn and old-fashioned (no offense!).
Anyway, what do you think? Shall we have a debate on this? |

| people always say that gay marriages is a sick and wrong thing, but i don't get why it's such a bad thing. it is just to people in love trying to show how much they love each other. i say its a great idea to have gay marriages. |

| I think that a person's sexuality is none of the government's concern. I don't care if guys want to marry guys or girls want to marry girls. If you love someone and want to share the rest of your life with them that's great and I don't think anyone has the right to tell you otherwise. |

gays can already marry...just not someone o the same sex
the issue isn't that they want to spend their live with their lover. you could do that without being married. its that some of the rights that married couples get dont apply to gay couples.
For example, If one of them dies, the other doesn't get their stuff unless its left to them in a will. For married couples, the spouse automatically gets support after the other dies. |

You know... living in Canada, we've heard nothing but this same sex debate over and over again for the past few months.
To those who are still trying to appeal the new law. GET OVER IT.
It has been pseudo-law for about two years in BC since the courts have ruled for same sex marriage already.
Its just now official with the new law in parliment. All those christian groups coming north to lobby against the law, go back to the USA. We don't need your religon here, heck take the rightwingers with you when you go back.
The Pope also says Harry Potter is evil. What else is next? |

Really?? wow...Anyway, I'm a Christian and I respect gay marriages. I don't really see the problem with it. I agree with cupcakes in that it's a way to express your love to each other. It's not sinful and I agree totally. People should accept other's differences but i guess that some people are really that discriminative and one sided. They can believe what they want. I hope that gay marriages are legalized in the states again, not saying that I am gay but really wish that governemnt officials wouldn't be so one sided. What can we do.. |

At first, I didn't really care and wouldn't mind if gays got married. But I think a little while back, a poll was taken in the U.S. that seemed to indicate most people are against gay marriage, or am I wrong? I tend to make up my own mind about certain things without trying to rely on whether the majority agrees with something or not. I was actually surprised that a lot of people were against it and I wondered what were one of the main reasons besides their religious beliefs.
Some fairly good points were made against legalizing gay marriage. Such as if gays start marrying, why not let siblings and other family members marry each other? How about someone who wants to marry their dog or their television set? I believe in marriage and don't want to see it disgraced in this way. Right now, I'm just sitting on the fence of whether I support gay marriage or not and I didn't vote. I am not a very religious person by the way. |

Wow, I'm pretty surprised to find everyone here so opened. Don't misunderstand I support it and all that good stuff - it's just that on Calgaryplanet.com forums you get a lot of negative feedback as well. Meh, I think a lot of people are just pissed that they're violating the defintion of a marriage. So call it a same-sex union with the same benefits. I don't really think it matters so long as they are legally binded together.
LoL @ the Harry Potter comment. It was in the paper today. He compared good and bad wizards to good and bad drug dealers. He needs to get a life instead of ruining everyone elses. |

violating the definition of marriage??
in wich way?just because it's the same gendre?
isn't marriage a 'alliance' between two lovers? I mean, people should get marry because they want to show to the outside world how much they love each other and start a family.
I think that gay people should marry too, they have every right to show the outside world that they love each other. and by giving it another name, is like saying it's something different while i believe that he only difference lays in the gendre of the persons getting maried. the meaning of marriage stays the same, is no different. |

Well I guess that gay marriage is troubling, because it effectively devalorizes marriage... for example in France, there was uproar when there was a parody of a gay marriage that took place in the cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris... because the parody was deliberately offensive.
However, having people who get married legally, even though they are of the same sex, doesn't bother me... because I think that legal marrige is more something like a contract. (I would be more reluctant to 'religious' gay marriage, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon in christianism...) Ans depicting gay marriage as 'evil' really pisses me off... because it is like judging people hastily, like catholicism has too often done... (oh, and I am a little religious...)
And really LOL at the harry potter... I mean, I can't believe that the pope said something like that... did he realize that it is just a book???? then it would be easy to flame just any form of fiction... |

Ok, whoever said "ban it, it is sin" Is, frankly, a moron, and idiot, and dumber than a tick. (offense intended)
It involves me greatly (I AM NOT GAY!), because my grandma is gay
Also, even if that wasn't the case, I still would be against banning of gay marriges....
Bush just shoved that topic in our faces to distract us from iraq for the election.... It's just a stupid topic, simply put........... _________________ [IMG:350:204:b5e314c893]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e42/xX_ZIGGY_Xx/milk.gif[/img:b5e314c893]

I waiver on this subject a lot. I think they should be together if that's what they really want, I don't have a problem. My problem is why do you need a wedding. I'm old fashioned in that department - marraige is between man and a woman.
I really don't mean to offend, just my opinion. _________________ Live to be the best, to be the best - be yourself.
