I think when you look at it, Anime tends to be higher quality then North American animation (TV show wise; the movies are on par usually). That's not saying that all N.A. animation is bad (some shows are quite excellent, but they are few and far between), and it's also not saying that all anime is good.
In fact, I think the vast majority of anime that's been brought over here is actually pretty bad. It just seems better because of what the rest of the world brings. I think it comes down to the fact that animation in Japan is more popular per capita then it is in most other parts of the world.
I also think that the entire east versus west thing is harder to judge then one might imagine; I mean, I look at some of the shows we get (Yugi-Oh, .hack, etc.) and can't even begin to fathom the fact that we're not even getting the REALLY bad stuff.
I think it's in sharp contrast with the North American comic book industry. I know there are probably few people who will agree with me here, but the comics coming out today here in North American are blowing the ones coming out from Japan out of the water. I mean, there have always been classics that Japan has simply not touched (The Sandman* and Maus come to mind, and this coming from a guy who's read phenomenal manga like Eagle: The Making of a Japanese-American Present), but show me the best manga today and I'll scoff loudly when you think they can hold a candle to titles like Ultimate Spider-Man, Y: The Last Man or Scott Pilgrim.*
Simply put, the North American comic industry has grown up with it's readers, while the animation hasn't. The common person is learning that comic books aren't for kids anymore; They just haven't learned that animation is for adults now too.

* The writer of The Sandman, Neil Gaiman, is british, but it was published by D.C. comics and found it's largest audience in N.A. I also want to mention that yes, Scott Pilgrim has more in common with FLCL then it does with Superman but it's a postive sign that non-super hero comics are finally getting big respect. |

| It's due to how the anime revolves round a particular character and you see how he/she grows as the anime progresses and you just get hooked onto it. |

| I usually watch anime for the humor. The more humor, the better. Also I like the uniqueness in SOME anime. If an anime is not unique, I don't bother to watch it. |

Because they are marketed in order to suit our tastes !! (but I prefer thinking that the art, sountrack, etc are of better quality than others american or european stuff - which is also right of course ) |

Amen to that brother. Lol It's addictive coz as the years progress, the animation for anime is gettitng better and better, character designs are awesome, and then when you compare it with what Disney's doing these days (not inclusind CG ones, and i have nothing against Disney) anime wins by far. The humor is awesome, and you just gotta live the chibi forms of the characters. _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!! |

Because the nicotine is an addictive substance...err.
Probably like others said, it's mostly not kiddie shows, there's adult themes, yet it's animated so the limits on what they can do are a lot higher. Stuff like Hellsing you could only see in movies in the US, never in saturday morning cartoons or whatever.. |

| Anime is great that's why =P But really it has every aspect that people like. I'm not saying every single one does, but you can find what your looking for. They tend to have great storylines (way better than 90% of the shows in America animated or not). The artwork is also a big plus, as well as the fact that they can be some of the most hilarious and entertaining shows ever made. |

what makes anime so interesting to watch...
well one is the unique storyline.. well some of them anyways.. at least an interesting storyline comes along more often that its N.A. counter parts...
the unique art and animation... try as the N.As can they can't seem to measure up to the kind of art and animation the animes put up... _________________
