In any case. Happiness is something that ever since I was a teenager I've considered a bad thing. Like someone else posted earlier on in the thread, happiness is like a kid that's been waiting months for a certain toy, throwing tantrums and crying until he finally gets it... but what that poster forgot to mention was a month later, that toy is all but forgotten on a shelf somewhere and now they're looking for a new happiness in some other toy. Things get old, taken for granted, and forgotten.
Human beings as a species yearn for things that are new to them. The unknown holds a certain fascination, and as such once the thing they are searching for is found... they will go on in search of something else. Happiness is like a drug, it's an emotional high.
The only thing that lasts is Contentment. This is why I will never tell another person to "Cheer up!" and rather, if I ever hear someone say those words I usually have to restrain myself from slapping them. The advice I can be quoted as giving in place of that is "Don't be unhappy." Which at first may seem similar but is vastly different.
The only problem is the pursuit of happiness is what drives us forward as a species. Without it, humanity would stagnate, never feeling the urge to explore the reaches of the universe, or discover the cures for aids or cancer etc. So there has to be some sort of balance, but mainly the most important thing is the understanding that Happiness isn't all there is to life.
The saying "Too much of a good thing" applies directly to this. If someone's too happy, they can't properly understand the unhappiness of others. Unhappiness on the other hand is most definitely detrimental in all cases except in the way that one can't truly appreciate happiness until they have tasted and experienced true unhappiness.
So Happiness is overrated and dangerous; it is fleeting and temporary. Only seek happiness if you've already found and understood what it means to be content with everything you have. Family, friends, a place to live, a computer, the internet... Understand and appreciate the things around you before searching for more.

I liked your comminto from the beginning till the end ^^
I think we misunderstand what real happiness is. Sometimes we have the hapiness right in front of us but we get bored from having it and go search for something more than what we have.
For me happiness lies within others. If i made them happy or did something right weather its for me or for others. _________________ "Blogger"
I used to think life is unfair. Maybe for the sake of self-denial or self-comfort, I think happiness is a dose of medicine God give out equally to everyone...
Then maybe, growing up... I think God gives everyone equal amount of good qualities and bad qualities... just like assigning attribute points in a game, you know? At that time, I think happiness is about realising where you're good at....
Then perhaps, maybe getting more mature, I think... that happiness is more about contentment about the things you get in life. It's about getting to appreaciate the things you already have and can do. This would be the fairest judgement for me, although it sets me to be slightly more pessimistic. But then, I'm not really a judgemental type anyway.
A very broad question about the true happiness; Is the journey or the destination more important? Think about this seriously...
