Sakura from Naruto: Why is she a main character?

At first i thought Sakura was there as a joke, but then I read the manga and it so happens that Team 7 was to turn out to be like the legendary sannin from konaha... Way to kill a joke....

yeah , you get a sasuke turning traitor like orochimaru and so on.
still, sakura is damn powerful later in the fight vs akatsuki Exclamation

I agree that at first Sakura seems to be useless, but she developes during the sieries/manga and becomes an even more important part than in the beginning. Also, she cheers up Naruto in some way that he do things which he could not if she were not there, but this was always said. And I also think like the others who already said this that she becomes the New Tsunade-sama. As a sied-effect, here encounters with Naruto even become funnier. Surprised

If you read the manga you would now that sakura became really powerfull character

Actually, in one episode she realized that she herself is a hindrance to the team and just wept like a baby. Some episode after that she asked the Tsunade obaachan to take her in as apprentice. If you were to read the manga the latest chapters, Sakura is a lot stronger and somehow she got Tsunade's uber strength.

yeah she s annoy, but i in the latest chapters of manga she seems pretty cool. not a weakling that can only cry for help anymore

Well i totally agree that Sakura is really useless, with her nub abilities she still won't be good even after the Hokage teaches her >.>

I have to agree that she's not really taking any part in the action, really. She just stands there and talks...But then, in the manga, she would get stronger, and then maybe she'll be more of a main character later on?

Well she is a main character~the chick that always gets into trouble and the hero has to save her, shes that kind of main charcter

Why all the Sakura bashing? If anyone needs to be bashed, it's that punk Sasuke. Sakura rules all! Go Sakura! I'm behind you 100%! Although I'm not too sure why Sakura is still so infatuated with Sasuke when she could easily get with Rock Lee! That guy kicks so much more ass! Oh and while I'm at it, Naruto should forget about liking Sakura so much and get with Hinata. Then Sasuke should just rot alone since that is what he chose to do.

Well, that sort of went off topic, but you get the gist. Don't bash Sakura. She'll kick your ass a hundred times over and you'll be the one crying and whining like a girl. =P

Well, Sakura may be useless, however, she somehow is the support of both Naruto and Sasuke. With her, the story won’t be interesting any more. And don’t forget that all the three Sannins have students, so Sakura is one of them.

Huh? Sure Sakura is annoying since she only gives trouble to naruto but I think that's what makes naruto strong. And I heard from my brother that Sakura became useful after the new hokage (I forgot her name) trained her. i think she became a medic just like the new hokage.

You guys should read Naruto manga instead. It is MUCH MUCH further ahead of the anime. In the manga, Sakura's role has a significant impact later on in the series. I believe her character is one that has seen the most growth. Sure Naruto and Sasuke grew in their own way. However, I think Sakura tops them both in both in growth of skills and personality. She was the one starting out at the lowest among the three. She has come along the farthest than any of those two. Go Sakura! (Beside the fact that I like the name Sakura, and the flower/symbol it stands for).

On a side note, I just want to point out that some stuffs are different in the anime compared to the manga. Some are left out for the sake of length, other due to impracticality... etc. The manga is where the anime is based on, go read it. I am not trying to spur a new debate about the preference between anime and manga. Depending on the series, I might chose one form over the other. For long series like Naruto, or *gasp* DB and DBZ and such, I rather read the manga. The colored anime is nice, but it takes time to make an anime episode, and I just can't wait.
