Yea...most english dubs do kinda suck....but a few that I really enjoyed were DBZ, FMA, and FLCL But other than that....you're right....America isn't made for anime...
i don't care wat ppl say....i love english dubbs...ppl give eng. dubbs too little credit....BE GREATFUL TO WAT'S OFFERED TO U!! ppl are acting like spoiled brats saying abnoctiously (most of the time), " eng. dubbs suck.....jap. rules!".....ok we all have are own opinion and stuff...but that doesn't mean when sucks more than the other.
anyways about that whole poll talk earlier...i dunno if eva was one of the choices......member they manipulate the system......or maybe it was one of the choices and i jsut forgot cuz yea..been awhile.l.ol. _________________
well i laugh at basically almost everything.....and voices aren't really a funny characteristic...some are...but seriously i don't find them to be funny. _________________
the only thing that I like about english dubs is....they're hilarious
I'm sorry, but come on....think about it.....the voices are rediculous....
I agree hehe Like look at alot of times how theyll pick forum accents for characters that are from Japan...Like Ryo in Shaman King for example...they gave him some kind of Portuguese gigolo voice O_o;
And then there's One Piece...everyone sounds half retarded in that one... _________________

Yea Cowboy Bebop's was probably a little bit better than FLCL's...
Mainly because space cowboy's should speak english xD
No I don't think that's the case... I think is because the dubbed director for CowboyBebop actually did his job on finding the perfect voices for the anime, not to mention that the voices grew on us, and eventually we begin to like how it sound it... more over, the same cast made a come back on Macross Pluss (except that now more experience and with some idea on how to work the voices... in a way you could say that Cowboybebop was their training before the real dubbing ) Besides, I don't think any of you guys found Macross Plus' dubbing to be horrible in any way...

It's really not all that obnoxious to be discontented with the dubbing industry. I do agree with the fact that subtitle elitists need to give dubs a chance, because some of them ARE actually better than the subtitled voices. It's a rare occasion, but a special treat when it does happen. But seriously, the dubbing industry deserves alot of the hate it gets from anime fans only because alot of the dubbers only really care about getting little kids to watch their shows. Alot of the time, they hack a show to bits (example: cardcaptors vs card captor sakura, one piece eng vs one piece jap) just to get more little brats to watch it, and I really don't think it's right to support those companies. However, if a dubbing job is good, like most of the ones on AS, and it seems that they actually cared about thye quality of the show they were dubbing, then I wholehardedly support it. _________________

why all the dumping on the english dubs? that is a freakishly hard job. the two cultures are so different and the translation is often so strange that the translators have to fill in the blanks as they go along. i respect those guys very much. for every anime that i own, i have watched the entire series once in jap w/subs and once in english. so, out of the ones i have or have seen that are not good...
DBZ
Naruto
One Piece
The Devil Man Lady (the actors/actresses in eng. are fantastic, but they edited out any and all references to the lesbian relationships. that pissed me off...)
Ayashi No Ceres
Weiss Kreuz/Knight Hunters
X TV

yea ai agree with true ancestor.......just because one doesn't like something doesn't mean that it is universally "bad"
True enough... Still, having a woman that sounds like a man, a girl that sounds like someone's grandma or saying lines in monotones where the animation just doesn't match is in my opinion a bad job, no matter how much effort went into it. In fact, that effort is wasted if the result doesn't add up to reasonable expectations of the audience. I understand translation is a difficult job and stuff is lost in translation, but I'm talking about the actual execution: voice acting. For example, I heard the Gundam Wing english dub, and it sucked terribly because everyone sounded bad, although what they said made sense. From what I can gather, most people think english dubs are bad in general for the same reason
Now, I've also heard plenty of spanish dubs, and in my opinion they are actually quite good with just a few exeptions. The reason (I think): For spanish there are several dubbing companies, since most entertainment is produced in english or other lanuages. Therefore, in order to compete with each other, dubbing companies have to get good convincing voice actors. Since in the US the entertainment is local it is reasonable to assume the dubbing business is small and puts little effort due to the little competition, or that the Japanese companies are not very proficient at dubbing their own stuff (because they aren't at english. EXAMPLE: in Gundam SEED destiny a character writes a note that says: "I'm going to killed").
I dont know the inside of the dubbing business by fact, so I'm just speculating here. Sorry for the rant. _________________
id say gundam seed and naruto i was waiting for a long time to see the show on english but it turn ou t wiht a big WWWTTFFF lol but seriously iy sucked

sry Leo....but i'll have to disagree with u on 1 thing...i loved the Gundam Wing english dubbing~! dude i even bought the whole collection..i thought the voices suited the characters well!
most ppl compare jap. version and eng. version. but just because u find one to be "better" than another doesn't mean that u should dismiss it. there are always different perspectives to things.....u gotta look @ things from different angles not wanting or questioning to see which version is better....but to see the difference between the two!....everything is unique in its own way. _________________

The difference between dubs and original subs is that it sounds more authentic. Take Gunparade March as an example, Hayama sounds fucking retarded as a guy. The original seiyuus for series are always better than the dubbed versions because how it's interpreted by the companies that translate these episodes choose voices that don't fit the character. You'd have a macho strong character in a series portrayed with a little kid voice. That doesn't seem right, does it? And what you say is quite redundant. If the originals are better then the dubs, then we DO dismiss the other object because only 1 is needed. What's the point of looking at a different angle when comparing dubs and subs? Theres nothing really to look in the first place. And in a way, you are right. Everything is unique especially dubs. They're horrible in comparison to subs.
Unless you don't know how to read and watch at the same time, then dubs are for you.
