If you use dial-up connection, really slow, mine would be about 2-3 kb per second.
If you use high speed internet, it may be over 1 MB per second, or about 100 kb per second, depends on many factors. |

| Hehe, 1MB/s is a bit unreasonable... my brother at college goes that fast only cause they have t3... but I have DSL too and it goes 0-5 KB |

OK, it is not really a lot factor on the client. Yeah, some are better, but do not really affect much of the speed. There are a lot of factors which can result in the slow speed of BT. I can get as slow as 500 B/s and can go as fast as 250 KB/s!! It can make a lot of difference due to a lot of factors.
Maybe you can tell me these things before I can advice you further:
1) What type of connection you use? What is the speed of the connection?
2) What tracker did the torrent file use?
3) Did you use a router or just directly from modem?
4) Computer Specification.
5) If you use a wireless router, what kind of receiver you use? USB, Ethernet or WiFi?
If you can tell me these few things, then I can advice you more and tips on how to improve your download speed. _________________

| have you tried bittornado? i've been using this one for a very long time. having high speed dl mostly. depends on the client and how many seeders are there. give it a try and turn off the built in firewall w/ sp2 |

Do you have a router?? If yes, try to access the router and then try to turn off the firewall. Try to check the "Dr. Jsy3k" thread. I have posted one about how to improve dl speed of BT. _________________

| hello again, i read everything but was lost on two things...the "patcher" thingy you said to dl and the router. Since i don't use a router, will that put me more at risk of being hacked? and what exactly is this patcher thing? |

You can set up your firewall to allow the port your bt client uses to open up (you can also do this with a router). About the hacked thing, thats a load of bull. A router really helps prevent viruses, worms, and spyware; don't know how tho. Its a better version of a firewall. To me firewalls are annoying cause of the block/allow popups. The chance of you getting directly hacked is low, so if you use a firewall, virus scanner, and spyware remover you should be pretty safe.
I use Azureus, and I am behind a router. Before the router I got up to 150 kb/s,a nd there was no change after I opened the port. I use SBC Yahoo dsl, but on the lower end, I dont know the max dl speed. _________________ All things in life are just your perception of reality. | Try Bit Comet. It's better than the original Bit Torrent. |

| the speed really depends more on your connection and how many peers you have then the client. I use azureus because it gives me more control over what i do with the torrents, not because it goes faster. |
