BT hurts the hard disk, that's basic knowledge if you want to be a good BT-er. I think it's because you are forcing your hard disk laser reader thing to read one part of the disk AND write another part of the disk at the same time, so mechanically speaking the laser reader thing might wear out sooner. The more files you are BT-ing the more areas you are forcing the reader to read and write at the same time, so the reader wears out faster. I read somewhere else that the hash checking after you finish a BT download also wears out the disk, but I forgot why, it seems to be a programming flaw.

You should always backup your shit on DVDs/CD and defragment your hard disk from time to time (I think once a week (or once every two weeks) for heavy BT-ers)

btw... I like how you abuse public goods Very Happy maybe I should try that next time... so what did you do? BT all the stuff you want and then transfer the file(s) via USB cable onto your ext.hdd/Zen/iPod?

If people cant connect to you it typically means that either yours or their ports are affected firewalls. If you use a router you might want to see if u can forward connections to your computer

I think bitcomet does that for you automatically (and some other BT clients, usually those that allow you to set listening ports)

I run bit comet also, however, the listening is more for when your not behind any router. The router blocks requests from certain people, typically other people behind routers as well, i believe. If you ever visit another bit torrent site and check to see if you are termed "clever = no", then the port forwarding will most likely be your solution

it's also basic knowledge that hard drives uses heads to read and write and not laser, pretty much like a needle on an oldie record. using laser for huge storage like hard drives won't be mass produced until maybe 2009 and this technology is called holographic memory. just keep in mind and to make things clear that hard drives may consists more than one hard platters having one head at each and it's not the needle that wears out. it's the motor that moves that arms. also, EIDE cannot read and write simultaneously but SCSI can.

For my upstairs computer, normally it goes 15-30 kb/s and for my downstairs comp it goes REALLY REALLY SLOW (takes like 33 hours to download an episode from Bleach!!)... Downstairs comp is very old, weak, and only has about 1 Gig worth of space left (WHAT!!). Ups comp has enough for Warcraft III and Counter-Strike x5 (BIG CHANGE!!)

i think its because i always load the newest stuff^^
