Maybe this amazing download rate is using up all your bandwidth? Anyway, which ports did you forward? Others can't connect only if you're using BT? |

| i think i did everything correctly when portforwarding...i chose a static ip that is less than 150, i set my port range to 10000-10020 but my internet is still really slow (when not dl'ing a torrent)and other computers can't use the internet only when i am dl'ing a torrent. |

Have you done that also to other computers in the network??? _________________

Looks like, as matti123 said, the download bandwidth literally is being used up
If that's the case, then you will need to limit your download speed. It seems that the port forwarding literally hogs all the bandwidth. I usually does that to make sure my internet works OK. _________________

| but if that's the case, then how come my internet connection is still ridiculously slow even when i am not using torrents? and is it normal that the ip address of other computers on the network is the same as my static ip? |

No, try to make all of them different static ips. If they are the same, it will conflict with each other and as a result, some can't seem to connect. Well, is it for all sites or for certain sites?? If you feel that it is still quite slow, try to restart your router and see whether the speed improves. _________________

| yeah, i've been getting a lot of "page cannot be displayed" when surfing on the internet, for example, it took me five tries to get this posted...so now all i have to do is to create a different static ip for each computer on the network? |

Yeah, that should solve the problem. _________________

Okay Okay, my turn now... i sometimes face this problem with my external devices. Do you HAVE to OR dont really have to click on the "safely remove icon" at the task bar.
I am guessing you might say play safe and click on it. But sometimes, i get this error saying that i can remove it and i am required to try again later. Is there another way to remove it safely? I am always tempted to just disconnect it from the pc.
the reason why i am concerned is that if that is the cause of my 200GB HD to just die off (damn my frens), I might look in to this and get my hands dirty. _________________

@Calador:
Well, the reason behind the safely remove hardware thingy is, that there currently could be a write access to the device. Now if you remove the device while data is still written, dataloss is almost guruanteed. I'm pretty sure that's the reason why it sometimes says that you can't remove the hardware and should try again later.
So keep playing safe, especially with a 200 GB hdd. |

Calador, it is not necessary all the time, but of course worth the effort. If the HDD just sits idle and are not currently transferring, reading or writing data, then it is OK to plug it out immediately. When it transfers data, then please be careful as you can not only destroy your data, but the harddisk itself. I have 2 harddisk dies off because I accidentally plug out the wire while it is transferring data. My manga collection goes with it _________________

hmm.. so what can i do if i see that there is no program running and no data trasnfering but i cant disconnect it. is there an alternative way to forcefully disconnect it without harming the harddisk
i dont really mine if what ever is half way transfering gets corrupted. i can always retransfer them but i hate to see my harddisk die off! _________________

It should be OK, but I suggest not to do it too often. Hmmm, alternative way is to open up the casing and forcefully take it out of the connector and that can damage your hard disk, so actually no other way. In the end, it is just an additional few clicks.
Which one do you want? A few more clicks and your hard disk is safe, or shortcuts, but will likely to damage your hard disk?? The choice is yours _________________

of course i wont choose the second one.. i mean i only have to switch off my external harddisk to disconnect it but i am scared it will endanger it. I want to know what other way to disconnect the hard disk other than that icon in the system tray. i mean is there a place wher ei can order it to stop all activities? _________________
