3 or 4 years ago, when i watched it myself, i felt the same way. i think that the viewers are just not supposed to understand everything.
but if you described your problem a little further, the other users might answer your question better. |

EVERYONE had this problem. Thats why the director released "End of Evangelion" and redid the last two episodes. The director was a nut who tried to commit suicide twice. I recommend looking for spefic sites that go thru the series in depth.
There are some links on animenfo.com Im sorry I dont have them on hand.
My takeoff on this whole Mind***k was that the director was trying to get rid of his "demons" by putting them out for the world to see. He played with the audience and really thru them off. Find and read the original Japanese reviews . They will let you into the culture a little.
BTW this seried DID change the way anime worked. But, just like 2001 space odysey (sp), it was very very difficult for someone grounded in reality to understand. |

I was going to lock this thread cos I thought, "this topic must have been discussed already by now!" But aparently not. (Surely this is a cardinal sin on an anime forum?) Anyway, moving this to the anime series forum where it belongs.

How? I've not actually seen this yet (still) so I'm not in a very good position to form an opinion of it myself, but this is a comment I've heard a lot. Just what is so special about Eva? _________________ David |

evangelion is soooooo much more diffrent than any other anime out there. when i started watching eva, a couple episodes in, i was thinking 'oh its just another cool robot themed anime' but then midway into the series, the director just throws everybody off with all these twists. it really is a mindf*ck but i thoroughly enjoyed every second of it go check out evangelion if u still havent man |

Neon Genesis Evangelion is considered a masterpiece by many because it combines a serious and unique storyline with interesting characters that evolve and has a deep psychological meaning behind the entire thing.
The very fact that everyone says WTF? at the end of both the TV and movie shows you what kind of show this will be.
I think Anno (the director) is a genius in the way this story was told. He played roles in making other anime series such as FLCL, Kare Kano and Abenobashi should tell you want kind of projects he works on. _________________

I don't think NGE was supposed to be understood, it's just one of those animes that will keep you stumped for the rest of your life. I like Evangelion not just for the story but also the character development, it was really well done.
Quit complaining about it and just enjoy it. |

I AGREE.
Anno Hideaki's work with NGE is truly a masterpiece, the way he played with everyone's fate in the last half of the series is beautiful, everyone gets destroyed by their own troubled minds, and about the last two episodes, i loved the way they show an introspection of the characters, and their feelings. but when i saw The End of Evangelion, well i went in shok for a couple of weeks... it's just the best ending for the series, so in my opinion NGE >DID< change the way of making anime. the feeling that you get after watching it is priceless, so, when an Anime is capable of twisting your brains and leaving a 'down' feeling in you, it's just enough to call it a Masterpiece.
you can't say that you just 'like' NGE. or you Absolutely love it, or you hate it above everything, this is one of the few titles out there that is capabble of making that reaction. in my opinion, NGE is THE BEST ANIME EVER MADE! |

Yeah i must agree with the last few post, NGE was a great anime. I liked mostly because it was so different. The last 2 eps had me sitting there for a while speechless, same with End of Evangelion. This series has a lot of emotional impact with it, any1 else get that? (if that even makes sense)
BTW first post, hey everyone |

Huh? What's not to get about the end of the series?
The lesson learned is that life is what you make it out to be. Rewatch the last two episodes. |
