Perhaps so, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they're both awesome specimens of anime television and just as worthwhile as any ending. _________________

Quite. I don't dislike the TV ending, I simply prefer the EoE one. However, while EoE provides a more closed ending, I have to concede that the TV ending definitely catered to the philosophical viewers. It just lacked the details such as what Instrumentality is, what started it, and what happened after it.

I agree with Kyadytim...........although the tv anime ending was great....it would have gotten a lot of ppl to thing~wtf?
I think the problem was the sudden jump from whats realy happening to the inner mind of Shinji (which must have been happening around the time of Instrumentality)...
Most wouldnt have understood what was going on.....which is where EoE brings closure......at least...even if it dosnt answer all the questions...(even gets you thinking of new ones)...it does make you think "Oh!! I see now! I get it"....as to what happened in the plot line..(leaving out all the psychological stuff)....

I finally saw episodes 22 and 23. The scene with Asuka and Rei in the elevator was definitely disturbing. Maybe I am strange, but I was laughing the entire time, probably because I already read that this scene was going to happen. I know I shouldn't giggle when a situatioin is so serious. I am so messed up...
Bam! Asuka slaps Rei in the elevator! Having seen the episode about Asuka's childhood, I have some sympathy for her, but I still don't like her.
I remember reading about Evangelion somewhere else. Fanboys were saying that Rei had "feelings" for Shinji when she saved him from the mind-raping Angel. According to the subtitles I read, Rei questions, "My heart wants to become one with Ikari-kun?" Is the claim that Rei "cares" for Shinji another case of (I am not sure of the exact term) "extreme fanboyism?" Are these just a bunch of obsessed otakus wanting to project themselves into Shinji's situation? I saw the scene, which seemed to imply only that Rei was lonely. But this alleged idea of Shinji and Rei's relationship does remind of an earlier episode when Shinji cleans her room and she blushes, saying "thank you" for the first time, which she never even did to Commander Ikari.
Anyway, did anyone see the scene when Asuka was at Hikari's house? I think she was playing a video game on something called SE?A (not sure about the third letter). I think that was referencing SEGA, and most definitely not SECA (Sony), because of the time when the anime was made. It looked like a Genesis. Yay!
I also saw the preview for episode 24. It looked like garbage! The shown scenes looked like those from a storyboard. The art didn't look finish; it looked worse than South Park! There were sketches, not pictures, of that Kaworu character cut out and pasted into other scenes. Did the production cast run out of money to do even a sufficient preview? Or was this some sort of artistic style? They were just still shots of black and white sketches. I thought I was watching manga on the screen!

Ha! It seems this thread is quite lively huh? Well anyway.
I don't think Rei had any feelings for Shinji in the way some fanboys reffered to, I think she simply cared for him and wanted to protect him. We can see that Rei is interested in what happens to Shinji in other episodes, like the one in wich the 12th Angel drags Shinji to the Dirac's Ocean, Misato ordered them to retreat and Asuka seemed to say something but Rei cut in and all worried she said "But Ikari-kun is still inside". About Asuka in Hikari's home I think the game said SEGA but I'm not sure about that. And no don't worry, episode 24 is not so crappy as you can think. It's actually pretty cool, but we can already see that they were running low on money so the preview of the episode must have been horrible. Well anyways the only one who can decide if its crappy is you so you'll have to watch and find out for yourself. _________________ Reality is wrong.

dats kinda obvious... dat anime is created by bored producers... wanting to torture the audience with lotsa big question marks.Anyway im quite shocked myself too as this anime was released in 1995 with not so appealing colors( although they had improved on it) but amazing storyline.

I thought that scene was pure genius... it went to the proper length to show us how much these two girls hate eachother. We can feel the tension as they stand there for, I believe I counted 54 seconds. That's a long time to ignore someone standing so close, and as witnesses to that, we feel just as uncomfortable as they do.
Anyways, I'm just about to finish my 3rd full run of the series. A couple things I noticed this time...
Rei says something really early on during her first monologue (around like episode 13 or 14) that humans are made by God, but she, was made by man...
ok, well there's one thing I remembered. I'm drawing a blank on the rest of the things I noted. I'll post back when my brain starts up again.

That's actually very common in anime. Mostly on electronic products, you'll see close-resemblances to real-life name brands. Tamami's camera in Mahoraba is made by PONY, and I think it was Nurse Witch Komugi that I saw SORNY. There are a hundred other examples, but as I said above, my brain is fried right now. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
Probably was on the top of my favorite anime list until I finally get to watch the original Macross in its entirety
To share some stuffs about the show, at first I kinda couldn't decide wghich ending was better - the series ending? or the movie ending?
At my first few viewings of EoE (yep that means viewing it more than once), I thought that
the last part was unnnecesary and only leaves the viewers hanging.
I kinda liked the TV ending as it seems to say that
the past 24 episodes were one complex weaving of metaphors in Shinji's mind and finally coming to a resolution with his problems (hence the "congratulations" part)
But that was then.
When I realized that
the last part of EoE meant that Shinji was afraid of rejection and pain but has gotten to accept it as part of reality. However he never really gets to be immune to rejection (that's not the point). Instead, he chokes Asuka to "check" if he's gonna feel rejection again (to make sure he's back to "reality" and not the happy "illusion"). When Asuka carressed him, he cried coz he felt like he was still in the "illusion". But then there was this last line "How disgusting...."
Ingenious!!!
I take back what I said about my review (I think it's still here ain't it?) about needing another more appropriate ending as this is one piece of work^^ _________________ "please let me work"

As many say yes this is one of the best Animes created up-to-date. And btw Haven9270
We know it leaves the audience hanging but that's the whole point.
This anime can have many interpretations since its quite complex. _________________ Reality is wrong.

this anime is one of those that gave me a pretty bad headache while watching it, and hence stopped me from watching it. guess its just abit too complicated for me to figure out the plot. _________________ *If it's a dream, I don't ever want to wake up.*
