In my opinion id like not to consider the last to eps part of the show. It may piss some people off but come on. Theres no way you can watch those in earnest and honestly see something there. I mean i guess if you watched yugi oh enough times eventually u could find some deeper meaning that to you may blow your mind.. but i just cant understand how the studio actually figured it could get away with that. They mustve assumed that it would be taken as it was by the die hard fans cause otherwise they were putting fishhooks on bags of crap and calling them earings. Its not just the fact that the last two eps sucked cause im sure those über fans will say i just couldnt interpret it right but you have to succumb when you realize they had to make two movies to even justify the creation of the series to please those who took evangelion at face value. AND I STILL CANT GET DEATH AND REBIRTH ZOMG.

actually, you don't really need to see Death and Rebirth before you watch the End of Eva

Death just summarizes the first 24 episodes and Rebirth is just the first half of the End of Eva that was released early to tide people over until the whole thing came out

ZOMFG GOOD GRIEF JESUS CHRIST ON A MOTORCYCLE!!!!!

my head is bleeding and ill be back to comment on the movie as soon as im done watching it. See this is the critical info that can save lives and time if properly released to the public. Otherwise its like someone could spend 3 weeks keeping 3 different p2p programs open to hopefully get 1 percent per day... Gao!

Well finnally... i hate double posting but alright. I got home today and i sat down and before i watched the new naruto ep, yeah i said before, i watched end of evangelion. Well thats how the seires shoulda ended. Very well done, very good fighitng scenes and while sometimes it got konfusing, but i phigured it out. And no one seemes to have mentioned all those really crazy bible referances... i coulda brought those up before but they really stood out here. Some of the stuff that happened seemed really way to far out but still and enjoyable movie and such and it finished the series alrightish.

So you liked EoE? From what I remember, they made the movie because the last two ep sucked and then some, and they wanted to get a good ending. So you could just ignore them (as most fans do) and enjoy the movie as the true ending.

I think there was some problems with the staff when they were making the last two ep, so they came out like they did (don't quote me on it, I heard all this a long time ago.)

Actually I think I'll go rewatch them again. That is if I don't have to shovel tomorrow morning.

NGE is one of those interesting stories in our generation. Spoilers ahead.

The Director Anno ended the story on a positive but internal note. It is assumed that the Instrumentality project or 3rd Impact has happened or whatever and Shinji comes to terms with everything in his life. He finally 'understands' other people from what I can remember (I watched it a while ago) and everyone is happy? Although we see the physical aspects of it in End of Evangelion (everyone dies, turns to LCL or whatever that liquid is).

Because it was TOTALLY in his head and there were no outside physical stories, people got weirded out and eventually Anno received death threats from anime fans. Can you imagine that? Anime fans in Japan sending death threats to the director.

I guess Anno got pissed off and made the movie which is just about even more fucked up than the original 2 episodes and this time Shinji rejects instrumentatily and returns to the devastated world... and presumeably Asuka does as well?

Thx for clearing that up.

Yeah Asuka was there... at least in body. There's other theories how someone else was in there or several girls were combined.

(Ha her eye is brown, it can't just be Asuka!)

(You idiot it was brown because of the lighting! Quit reading to much into things.)

...now that the voices in my head have quieted down, here's my rendition of that last scene.

Potential Spoilers

Shinji: [realizing Asuka was next to him] Out of all the people in the world, I had to end up as the last man alive with 'you'

Asuka: Ha! Man is highly debatable, baka. I'd rather have woken up next to Kagi.

Shinji: That's it! [as he was choking her, he realized that if she died, he'd have no chance of gettin' sweet-sweet love except from his own hand]

Asuka: That's disgusting! [let it be known that everything before Asuka just spoke was a mental conversation, since they were linked from their little stay in the lcl soup]

Meanwhile Yui watched on, wondering if it was a good idea leaving him without responsible supervision. Then she remembered he had been living with Misato.

Time for what little of my brain isn't asleep to join the rest of it.

Gaa post like yours kill me. How does someone who wants to add real hard hitting good topic filling stuff reply after you say something completely out of the blue and unbacked like that. Cmon? how do we know that it rocks. I thought it was good and thought provoking and deep but nothing about it "rocked". If the origional seriers preogression had occured and it followed similarly to other animes, a love triangle could have been implemented and carried out.... Whole plot sequences with the angles existance in the world could have been formed and made into good productive tv. Instead the director went insane and fed us some mind game. Whether or not it launched him into infamy, the way he had set up his dominoes here he coulda had a much more spectacular show. And for the record if u must state the "NGE ROCKS" give a flippin reason or even jsut an opinion so your not wasting our time.

I take Neon Genesis Evangelion to be a series that represents the process of questioning an individual's motives. Shinji never had to fight against the angels.
But I see the ending of Evangelion as the questioning of the creator of why he had to make such a controversial anime that had its budget slashed. The ending shows what the anime could have been. As I thought, the creator must have had a hard time to make this anime, but he never had to make anything more than simple story and cash in. But, if there is any hidden messages to the fans, and how they should be more social, I am sure that is a mistake. Sure, the audience could learn from the creator's questioning on if he made the right beginning, but you have choosen to be frustrated at the show, the director did not force this on your free will. He just showed that he may have been regretful for starting the show off without any idea that he could finish it.
Kaiser, you said it pretty well; the ending has a personal note for the creator. But I agree with him that the movies has more of the fan's wishes in mind. It is cool that there is a choice for endings.
