Meh, out of the list out there... I'd say Final Fantasy 7 mostly because of Cloud's almost permanent identity crisis, even though Sephiroth's badassness does help a lot, AND it does counterweight the fact that your party's fighter/knight crossdressed (funny moment for me). FF9's storyline in general wasn't praisworthy, but I give kudos for it for the little sidestories here and there and the bits and parts of simple humor that you can find in it (will I ever get tired of Steiner jumping in his clankity armor? Nah...) FF 8... I got bored by disc 3, Squall was unplayable for me as a main character and it was pretty much getting lame for me, except for the moments when Laguna took over, it made me smile... probably because of 'The Man with the Machine Gun'. FF X... never played it, but from what I've heard I'd respect it storyline wise because of the whole parallel universe concept.

On a side note: as so many here said, FF 6 pwns.

And on a side-side-note, best RPG storyline for me is an FF game. But nobody, and I mean NOBODY, talked about it here, which made me disappointed... Final Fantasy Tactics anyone?

FF7 and FF3 (US version) have the best storylines. Though FF3 is a game made in 2D and may be a short game if you know where to go and what to do, it's awesome. Another awesome game I found turns out to be http://uc1.GamesTotal.com/?tft=39p6 It's an online text base though.

FF VII has the best storyline as far as I know (Aeris' death marked me).
FF VIII storyline is not so bad because it's about a love story that ends well in opposition to FF X.
FF III (us) story is also good because it tells more about magic.
FF II (us) story is good because it looks like Star Wars a little.

FF7 had the best story line, I played and beat that game 5 times. The characters are amazing and the story was captivating from beginning to end.
