i have to agree with what the others said. it's pretty hard to say which is the hottest. there are a lot of manga that get more popular abroad, and there are manga that are insanely popular in japan that don't get to see the light of day in the international market...then there's the issue of whether or not it really is hot (this is really a subjective topic).

overseas (manga more well-known abroad than in Japan):

--Blade of the Immortal - I have this one. Totally awesome art, but not as recognized as its contemporary Jiraishin (then another title which is spoken but not widely spoken). It's been popular for quite sometime now, but the reception is a bit lukewarm or so I have learned.

--have to think of others

wildly popular locally (really tricky...unless you're dragonball or slamdunk, you really can't seal the fate of a manga)

--Vagabond - This manga sells like hotcakes every release. Bookshops also make it known that it won the Shogakukan award, hence bigger revenue. Awesomeness *evil laugh*

--One Piece - It may not appeal to everyone but those who like it really like it. Let's face the facts. It's not everyday a manga-turned-anime series gets a shop/mini-museum at Sunshine City, goes no.1 for weeks on end and has top-billing in Fuji TV's golden hour.

--Detective Conan - I don't know if this really clicked with the people, especially since CN decided to include it in its anime roster. This didn't seem to have gained it rightful attention either here in the Philippines. Nevertheless, this is so popular that Gosho Aoyama became the highest paid mangaka next to Rumiko Takashi...then again, because Conan is so popular Aoyama-sensei has lost his social life and does nothing but draw manga (20 freakin' hours a day!). If you're into detective stories ala Sherlock Holmes, you should try this. And yet another winner of the Shogakukan Award.

--Crayon Shin-chan - Just had to add this one. The Kasuga mayor doesn't give keys to the city to a fictional warugaki on a daily basis.

--Nana - I have never seen a shoujo manga as popular as Nana. Billboards everywhere. Trucks driving with advertisements all over Tokyo. If I hadn't had the decency to actually read the ad, I could have gone on thinking it was some kind of campaign for some clothing line.

the point is pretty moot; majority of anime source members seem to really like a great deal either bleach or naruto or both.

since i seem to have "skewed" tastes, i might as well pitch in some recommendations (and they're also insanely popular):

Hajime no ippo. Definitely. No need to expound on that.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge. Aka Wallflower. Shoujo...or un-shoujo.

Aishiteruze Baby. Shoujo. For ultra-sensitive people like me.

Yakitate Japan. Will teach you new appreciation for bread, plus a whole lot of trivia. Really great manga. Who says fighting manga always has to be in the spotlight?

Hagaren (FMA). A cow drew it.

Naruto is a hot manga out there. Ichigo 100% is pretty hot too, but I don't hear much about it out of this forum.

Naruto is thee yes i said thee hottest manga as of now.
my opinion on this is because of the sudden increase of naruto searches on lycos it made top 20 i think. plus the debut of naruto anime on toonami which will probably encourage new comers of naruto to read the manga from the net.
naruto might have a chance to match DBZ"s once high popularity
using anime as a gateway to mangas, they are geniuses!
