yes, from the point of view of someone wo doesn watch anime,
i think it explains the anime industry in america very well, but i just wanted to get some other peopples points of views before i go off with randm details.
however, i think they do have a point with the yu gi oh and final fantasy movies, as they both sucked ass. _________________ CAIN is MY whore. touch him and die.

That must have been the MOST AMERICAN article about manga and anime (they even got them wrong) and the writer was like the MOST AMERICAN GUY IN AMERICA. What a stupid article. che. All they were saying is like "oh americans like manga, but it can't beat the movies, haha!!"
Americans just want to make their STUPID LITTLE CARTOONS LOOK BETTER THAN the great works of art that the Japanese make. Stupid fools. Thats it; EVERYONE!! START BUYING ANIME FOR NO GOOD REASON TO PROVE THAT STUPID WRITER WRONG!! RAWR!!! -
...Though they did have a point; Spirites within was gay, and I never bothered to watch yu-gi-oh (never liked it from beginning, though played the game and was good at it) _________________ *Kindly resize your sig to the permitted size*

| Well, as our generation, the young one tends to like anime a lot, at this age, before entering the real world... as they do, they may lose their interest on anime... I think the anime is tends to target the young ones, so maybe it might be a success in North America, but not too much... |

| definately! when I become a director, i'm a'gonna make kickass anime films! ...on a serious note, major film companies are already taking on comics and making comic movies, it's only a matter of time before they start sucking up anime material if not just making anime movies. The only problem is, the reason anime is so good (for me) is because it stretches out over episodes, it's more like reading a book. Movies don't always have the same level of depth... but i'm an optimist. |

I believe manga&anime can do it well too!!! Look at anime like 'Beyond the Cloud' , 'Howl's flying castle' , 'Spirit Away'. Those are totally great!!! _________________ I don't want to kill you, so you better don't make me do what I hate to do... |

well, unless you were already an anime fan, dont think many people 14 or older wold go see an animated film in the theatres.
also, towards the end of the article, they mentioned a ting about transformers... so why do you thnk that gundam isnt more popular in america?
becuase of the age group. eight year olds watch different things than fifteen year olds. and not very many teens would go see an animated movie, no mater how high the ratings. becauase american teens are brought up differently than japanese ones. _________________ CAIN is MY whore. touch him and die.

Howls Moving Castle got some hyp...
Anime is getting quite popular and more and more people are tuning into various anime net works. Maybe in the next decade the anime movies will be released and there will be lines for waiting in.
The most popular movie based on anime is Pokemon.
Remember when Cowboy Bebop The Movie was released in America? I went there on opening day and sad to say, but the thearter wasn't even 1/4 full. _________________ PM some funny pick-up lines please > |

yes, but both pokemon and howls moving castle were aimed at younger generations. and i didnt even know the cowboy bebop movie aired in america. however, i think you bring up a good point that it is gaining interest, if the cowboy bebop movie were to aire again in theatres, i think alot more people would go see it, because they would be familiar with it.
things like [adult swim] and anime network have helped make anime more popular, because a few years ago, the only anime on network television was pokemon and digimon. _________________ CAIN is MY whore. touch him and die.

| I think that anime does have the potential the problem and I'm sure this has been listed already, is that not many theatres will carry anime we need to get a wider acceptance of anime into the mainstream media. Already film critics here have praised anime |

You said "ever". Would anime "ever" become accepted? Yes, but who knows how long it'll take.
I'd say it'd take about 30-40 years for it to become accepted. |

AARRGGHHH!! Does this person have a brain? Using Yu-GI-Oh as an exaple of anime movies is a pretty stupid mistake. A poorly made movie will be a flop no matter what style it is. Consider all BAD US-produced movies relesaed lately. Does that mean that US movies will become unpopular in the US? Obviously not. Anime movies will be a hit in US theatres if good movies arrive, anime movies will fail if bad movies arrive. Add popularity to that. people go to... say.. Tom Cruise movies because tom Cruise is in them. They go to Walt Disney movies because they are familiar with Walt Disney. People are oftentimes not failiar with the stuff in anime movies, and what would probably compel them are good critiques or word of mouth. Unless good movies arrive and spread in either way (preferably both), Anime movies will not be that popular. _________________
