As of currently, Kanye West and Jay Chou are about the only 2 artist I am keeping track of. There are bands once in a while in either language that gets my attention, but nothing solid. I tend to listen to japanese music outside of anime. Jrock is practically dead, seeing as how most of the bands are losing their edge. They are all too poppy now. American music is just damn generic now, it's the same damn thing over and over again. I listen to old stuff mostly and I'm really hoping for the day that a new Jrock band comes out and kicks some serious ass. Either that or Luna Sea reforms (please don't suck like L'arc does). Or if Hide rose from the dead, then reformed X-Japan. Now that would kick major ass!
For those who are not impressed by Jrock, just download (or buy even!) Luna Sea: Singles. Thats a good starter album. If you want to be more artistic, go for Luna Sea: Mother (their best album ever IMO). Luna Sea is obviously my favorite band of all time. They've got mad range, and just a great all around style. If you like them, I can probably reccomend some more albums if you're interested. |

| I prefer English songs over Japanese songs ... I find the Japanese language a bit odd when it comes to singing; however, I must admit some Japanese songs are good like "Ready Steady Go" by L'arc En Ciel, but thats about it. I think why most people like Japanese songs is because they're too use to English songs and find that English songs are all similar in some ways. But if you take a real Japanese person in Japan they might say they prefer English songs because its not like what they have in Japan it's "different". I also think that certain languages are only limited to specific styles of music which make them different from songs in other languages. For example a French Rock song ... doesnt exactly fit well does it? Since French is know for how the words all flow and smoothe and kinda like a romantic language. Same goes for English and Japanese songs, they're limited to only a certain style of music if they go beyond that, good for them! However it'll sound a bit odd and when compared to an English song that fits the style the English song would sounds better and more impressive. These are just my thoughts... |

I like Japanese songs. ^_^
Here in Finland there are soo many good bands and artist that become teens favourite band just because the band members look cute and I don´t like it...
But there are few english song too that I like. ^_^
It really doesn´t matter what language is the song, but it has have good rhytm and lyrics of course. :)
And the singing! |

honestly i dont think when people make english pop songs, they really mean what they sing. for example britney spears and backstreet boys; they sing songs about love and all that but they are so caught up in their own little world of fame that they dont appreciate what great work they've done. they exploit their power when they should be embracing it.
japanese people are more responsible when they make their songs, it comes from the heart and alot more emotion and beautiful lyrics are incorperated into their music.. L'arc~en~ciel... HYDE just to name a few |

I try to listen to all different types but I definitely prefer Japanese music. The rhythm is more often than not more upbeat and enjoyable than American music. Not to mention that the Japanese rarely, if ever, talk about sex, drugs, etc. which is a major factor in my choice of music. _________________ "If you're going to criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes so when you criticize them, you're a mile away and in their shoes." |

JPop/Jrock music rips off American music. They are so formulaic it's not even funny. After you listen to some JPop you feel like you've heard it all before, it's like listening to Britney Spears all day long.
There are some great Jazz artists from Japan, however. |

So true! They would be the most popular JRock band of the whole Asia, maybe even conquer the hearts of Europe and North America. _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. im not really sure of the difference but i think japanese music has more techi sounds than of the english ones.. well as far as rock music goes... my fave OST btw is heart of sword from rurouni kenshin... but music that i must have a daily dose of is music of my own language... can never really let go of that.. _________________
