Well, I'm pretty sure most of the anime/manga fans would love to learn some Japanese, as do I. Well, I was think about asking some staffs or users, who have learned Japanese, or who know the language, to set a thread, or a section, and give lesson to us via A-source site.

Just a suggetsion!

I heartily agree. While I would prefer to learn it orally, I suppose written is just as good, as they go hand in hand. If you know any way to set this up, I would love to participate in my free time (which, as a working college student, is a little low Crying or Very sad ).

i'm kinda leaning against this idea coz there's a lot of anime freaks in my jap class and around the campus that shows off of how much they know but don't know how stupid they actually look. the idea is nice, since i too really want to learn japanese, but i'd hate to see more people that are like that. these people obviously don't know much about jap culture (and you don't learn about the jap culture just by watching animes either -_-;;.) and you need that also to learn the language.

i have some idea how to make this work since i have a kana book (which i haven't written anything in it yet since i don't want to make the cute little book look bad with my horrible handwriting xD), device(s) to record my voice, and SOME little free time. though, it seems kinda impossible coz you need to be almost perfect on writing moras. and this is where having a real teacher comes in to play and show you what you're doing wrong, verbal interactions, and learn about the culture and dialects. besides.. teachers or professors like mine deserve students and they deserve to be paid. me? i'll get nothing out of this in the end while other kids will show off how much they own. ah.. and about that, sorry but that's just how i feel ^_^;.

Well, doesn't have to be a staff (although I've heard that some staffs do know Japanese...), it can be a member of A-source too. Well, he/she can make a thread, and edit it from time to time to renew the new lessons, and that thread will allow no one to post in it.

well, I think its a great idea to have some kind of japanese tutoring on the site, we even had a japanese dictionary but because of few complications and lack of support, it failed

however, cgy, try using google and you will definetley find lots of tutorials and jap dictionaries, and i'm pretty sure that some other forum has somekind of a thread like this already

cool...i dont mind doing that. maybe do a few sentences each day, and we might not even need someome who actually speaks jap, if we are just doing the easy stuff.

my advise of learning another language: listen to their songs, and search the meaning of the words in the lyrics, as many as you can find, and as you listen to it, i'll remember it. this way you increase the ability to listen, since they sometimes talk quite fast.

Hiring someone is certainly out of option, and it's not what I suggested. It should be entirely of volunteering!

Not a bad idea.

I'm learning Japanese and Chinese Smile
I have a friend who lived in Japan for 1 year and he has studied the language before, he wants to teach me, and right now I already suck at the alphabet hahaha...

I hope I have learned enough Japanese to understand what people say and that i can respond, cause I'm planning to go to Japan next year.
If AS has a tutorial, it will be great.
but it's kinda hard if you don't know the pronounciation, trust me.

This is a great idea. I've always wanted to learn Japanese since I really got into anime. Somebody should really start this thread. Start of with some cool catchphrases or sumthin. Cmon I know someone here must know Japanese.

I started a Japanese chatting thread in Free For All yesterday here.

There seems to be quite a good amount of members who have a good grasp on basic sentence syntax and vocabulary. I also have been studying Japanese for over 2 years in college, though I have not been directly exposed to Japan yet. I could possibly organize something with another strong speaker, sakuraglory, and maybe do something basic just for fun, if she is interested. She has already given some vocab, and now is encouraging members to attempt to introduce themselves in Japanese. It could be a very informal thing among the members that could be updated every once in a while.

And in case no one has noticed, I'm on staff.
