Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do. I don't think the UN can do anything since it is domestic affair and their intervention will only become interference by the government. I think the only thing missing from all these political talks is only one: A good leader.

kaisash, please learn to use the edit button where it is necessary. Please do not double post unnecessarily. I saw that your last post is only 3 minutes away from your last post. I have already deleted your last post and combine them together. You will not lose your points for the last one (I think) but please be mindful of that in the future, OK? Wink

Communism is what happens when Socialist governments start to fall apart. More accurately, Communism is the violent enforcement of socialism. It's not a very large step, but it makes a bad problem much, much worse.

Well, they say Socialism is the evolved version of communism, like the China of today.

Socialism is actually the stage between a bourgeois free market society and complete communism. When communists in Russia seized power they ushered in the stage of Marxist socialism. A small minority took control in order to prepare the people and their country for communism. The theory goes that when the country was ready for communism, the minority or the ruling elite would hand over control of the country to the people.

Socialism took different forms with different focusses and methods to accomodate different societies, cultures and situations. It is not a set political doctrine but the lead up step to communism.

edited bit
when most people say communism they do mean socialism. Communism has never been achieved by any socialist state.

it's not really communism where the government establishes its control. The correct word for it is totalitarianism.

adj.

Of, relating to, being, or imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed

But I think that communisms' best form is written on paper because it seems so nice if you think about it, a place where everyone is equal, but once it is taken into action the plan fails miserably.

okay fine i took the quote out of context Wink .
i have no faith in the UN. I think its totally undermined because its not really an independent body but a collection of entities. it has no concrete power by itself but is beholden to its members. You can see its powerlessess in the way that some powerful countries (one certain permanent member in particular) lie, and disregard its rulings at whim. Whats more, they use the UN to pressure weaker countries into line. The UN has even become an arena where they propagate their agendas. Sec State Powell's WMD speech at a UN conference was a major part of the administration's campaign for war (much of the speech which was based on shaky, unverifiable, misinterpreted evidence has now been discredited). More recent is the uncovering of the food for oil scandal which sparked a major inquiry into the dealings of high ranking UN officials responsible for the food for oil program.

true.. *hmm*... they only interfere when there are genocides or wars... or something as threatening like that, right?...
from what i remember... this year's UN summit (sept 14-16 i think) does go over human rights.. but u'r right... UN doesn't have substantial power...
hmmm ... there's another org out there... *think think*....
anyways
there should be something that we can do.. there better be... if there isn't... then we should create such possibility
anyways~~~~~~~.. after thinking really hard for the past minute.. (LOL).. i finally remember the name of the org that i was trying to remember... amnesty international~
it serves to protect human rights worldwide ^^.. (even though it not in any way more powerful than the UN)
it deals more w/ refugees, child soldiers, poverty, violence agaist women, etc.
hmm
i think it can help ^^
yup... umm..
i have no idea where the lump of money to create social programs to help the ppl will come from.... *think*
tax?

as for the "good" leader part
i think it depends on the focus of the party and the structure of the society..
ex.
let's say... in a democracy..
the leader's (forgot what's the word).. promises?... would logically be aimed at its voters.. and be appealing to those that sponsor the party (i.e. the rich and famous.. well... may be just rich...)...
sooo.. does it make sense for the leader to appeal to poor ppl and immigrants who don't understand the local language?
logically... the leader'd make sure the rich'll get the longer end of it so the rich ppl will continue to give money + sponsor the party... right?...
rem that there is a definite limit to the federal budget...
so when prioritizing... would the leader prioritize the minority poor over the majority of middle-class?... or the powerful higher-class?...
first of all
if the leader prioritizes the poor over or at the same level as others.. so that the leader risks the stability of the crowd... erm... is that a good leader?...
*shrug*
either some international org'd pressure the gov't (so it'd be accountable to the ppl... that it needs to help the poor people because 1. well they need help 2. the intl org is pressuring us to do it 3. we need to maintain good intl image and connection because rejecting the request is not.. good?....
or another social structure is necessary

You should say that you hate the government, instead of the idea of communism. The idea was original meant to make a place in which everyone is equal, and everyone gets equal. However, the one who's controlling the party somehow got wicked, and turn the party into his machine for power, and crush the ones who opposed him...

Considering that the equivalent of the annual budget for the UN is spent every 36 hours by the US military, I'd say the UN has been amazingly effective in distributing aid and keeping some semblance of order in the world. Is it very beaurocratic and tedious? Oh yes, I've done Model UN extensively and during many sessions, I was reasonably close to just falling asleep. But taking into account the amount of power and money delegated to it, the UN makes pretty good use of them.

The ideals of communism is something that while appealing is not always pratical as it tends to put power in the hand of one group or indiviual and you know what they say "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" So while there is probably just as much corruption in a capitalist society, I think I prefer the checks and balances of democracy Very Happy

I don't know about this..... umm... for me, communism isn't bad, it's just that...

It makes a country poor. Ne? Confused

Have you ever seen a country benefit from it? Capitalist countries have a sense of hierarchy in it, giving a sense of direction, idolism, patriotism (sort of). Communist countries mostly gets very poor..... maybe because there isn't a single person who stands out as a rich guy..

Everyone is equal.

A country drowned in a sea of sameness...... it gets boring. Plus, no one is allowed to get rich. Not that I want to be rich. It's just that, no one gets a chance to be productive.

You work hard to be rewarded, but in communism, you just work. I don't like it. Confused
