Ek... Actually it was way before that... Gundam F91 was pretty much a mix and match of the original MSG storyline with some new faces. Victory Gundam was a mix between the three original Gundam TV series. So Gundam has been doing this ever since they ended the original EFF vs Zeon storyline (then again, even Zeta Gundam, the first sequel, had a number of storyline parallels with the original).

Enemy characters with masks:
Char Aznable (MSG)
Kycilia Zabi (MSG)
Haman Karn (ZZ, wore a mask that doesn't cover anything up though...)
Carozzo Ronah aka Iron Mask (F91... His name gives away his looks)
Cronical Asher (Victory)
Schwarz Bruder (G, not an enemy but still a rival Gundam fighter)
Ulube Ishikawa (G, wore half a mask)
Zechs Merquise (Wing)
Rau Le Creuset (Seed)
Neo Lorrnoke (Seed Destiny)

And along with enemy characters with mask we have the good guys disguising themselves with shades... Those are:
Quattro Bajina (Zeta)
Jamil Neate (X)
Harry Ord (Turn A)
Athrun Zala/whatever he calls himself (Seed Destiny)

Overall I liked Gundam Seed but doing any more of it is just fan service imo. That's why I don't approve the making of the second season, even more so after seeing how it started. I knew that Destiny wouldn't be anything new but I was dissapointed even with my low expectations.
Anyway, Yebyosh pretty much said it. Everyone has their own viewpoints.

Watched Ep 2... Seems like this series will be MUCH more action-packed than its predecessor...

Episode 2 was purely action with a sprinkling of character introductions. Interestingly why is the Gundam tradition always making the protaganist's faction the whipping dog at the start when the background annoncements/story always proclaim the said faction as actually on top ( or equal )? Razz

They were the top dogs then suddenly they always get p0wnz in the first few episodes Laughing

Action fans might not be disappointed with episode 2. Just beware of the crazy reactions of that nutzoid ballerina. ZAFT's secret weapon against her the next time? An all-frequency multicast broadcast of "You will DIE!!!"

Question for our residential Gundam expert Razz :
I remember darkhunger once saying ( during the first Gundam Seed ) that only NewTypes would be able to pilot those modular weapon drone systems. So is that green-haired fella, Sting a NewType as well ( his Gundam has 2 drones ). If he is, why can Rey not detect him? Or did I recall incorrectly what you said last time...

I don't think they ever said anything about ZAFT being "top dogs" here though... Since those new EA guys seem to be just as technologically advanced as ZAFT is.

That's how it is in the UC timeline... However in this one, guys like Morgan Chevalier from the Astray manga and Mu La Fraga's old Morbius batterymates were able to use them as well. So obviously its not limited to Newtypes here (though I guess Newtypes can use them to its full potential).

Anyway, even Newtypes can be strong or weak... Strong ones like Creuset in the first SEED could sense people who aren't Newtypes but pose a threat, like Kira for example. Rey doesn't seem to be one of them. But since Newtypes are the biggest plothole to come out of the Gundam franchise, I don't think you should look too much into it in SEED... Razz

Why build your own when you can steal them quicker and with less manpower (three kids... Laughing )?

Dude, something tells me that you haven't seen ANY Seed if you actually think that. Nor Seed Destiny. Maybe you're confusing this with Gundam Wing?

Strike, Aegis, Buster, Blitz, Freedom, Justice, Raider, Forbidden, Calamity, Providence all got destroyed. Gods? lol.

And considering the fact that in Destiny, Zakus can stand up to Gundam's and even mobile armors like the Exus, you're really dead wrong again.

Actually since they got destroyed by other Gundams or 'super weapons', and not by your 'run out of the mill' mechas, he was correct in a way...

Actually I am curious why they need to dodge every weapon since their PS armours are supposed to be able to take on non-beam weaponries and I thought that not all mechas had beams. In fact, why do they bother firing the gatlings at other PS Gundams if they would not even damage them in any way...

So far only because those Zakus and MAs are piloted by "people that cannot die yet as they are supposed to be important characters or romantic interests of the former" Razz ( look at the tonnes of Zakus, GINNs, MAs not piloted by those critical characters... dead as doorknobs )

Is there a Gundam series, where there is a pilot in a 'normal' mecha that survived to the end and made important contributions to the conclusion? Then again, if the pilot together with a Gundam suit was not made up to be the supreme shit ( the gangsta meaning ) of the universe, it would not be a Gundam episode Wink

That applies to every other Gundam universe out there too (with exceptions--see below), not just SEED. So he's still wrong.

PS energy drains out if it gets hit a lot. I think this was covered in Ep 17 or 18 of SEED. The BuCues were able to cause a PS-down after barraging Strike with missiles (and Andy was able to keep track of how much it could take before going down)

No, so far none of the Zaku's got destroyed. Actually we've only seen three Zaku's in action and all of them are piloted by named characters... The only suits that got destroyed were those old GINNs and GuAIZ's from the previous war which are now pretty outdated. So it shows that Gundam aren't the only dominating suits in this show.

Gundam 0080 is about a kid who befriends a person who pilots a Zaku and a person who pilots a Gundam... And actually, the "good" guy in that show is actually the Zaku pilot... I won't spoil much but I guess this is the best example of how a "normal" mecha can contribute to a story (though this story is only 6 episodes long...)

Anyway, mass-produced mecha are always cannon fodders in Gundam... That's the way its always been. Of course, there are times when the Gundam's themselves are mass-produced, but its the same. Zeta Gundam's Mark-II and its limited production was a pretty average suit during that series, Victory Gundams got destroyed all the time in its namessake series, not to mention the mass-produced Gundam ground from 08th MS team which was generally no better than the average grunt suit.
