for the avatar, go to profile, scroll down to Avatar control panel, and you can either choose a pic from the gallery, or upload a pic of your own.

its pretty straight forward.
then just enter the URL to 'the link to off-site avatar'
or go to the Read_Me.txt forum, it answers a lot of questions.
