OMG, another Fafner fan!! I'm so happy ^^. Ep 16 was very awesome. I wonder if Kazuki (I think thats his name) will throw the non-island guys out with his new toy. I don't think they'll just want to pick up and leave after seeing everything they've seen.

But after seeing the power of the Mark Sein I doubt they can do anything about it... Very Happy

What happened to the "Gobine" otaku and those other guys though? Did they die or get assimilated?

I don't think anything serious happened to them, it wasn't dramatic enough for them to get owned up. Their fafners are probably f*ed but that’s about it.

Surprisingly, this has become one of the few shows I watch right after my DL finishes. I guess it's due to it being fairly straight forward and I can wait for it to tell me whats going on without having to spend too much time thinking about it while at the same time it's able to leave we wanting to see more or maybe it's something else. Whatever it is that the writers of this show are doing, it's working, for me anyway.

Toomi becoming one of the top dogs? I can smell drama brewing already Smile

Well, just finished watchin gthe latest. I really like this series. I just wanted to comment that I really like the ending song. I like how they begin the song along with the outgoing scene. Very Gundan-seed like.

Finally got to watch the ending ep (or episodes since it's an hour-long special). It's a pretty good anime, that has some depth, but not so much that we're drowning in metaphors and vague concepts.

The Ending was touching. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but it seems there is enough closure, with the necessary 'loose ends' that most anime leaves, if not for a sequel than for the imaginations of the fans.

I'd recommend this series to anyone, and am a little surprised it hasn't been licesnsed yet. Anyway good job to the translators, and thanks for allowing us fans a chance to see this series.

The original draw for me was the soundtrack. Somewhere along the line, the story got good and I couldn't leave the series alone. I guess it's wrapped up pretty well now but I happen to think that the yaoi is a bit out of place.

I would hesitate to say that Fafner is a great show. Good maybe, but bad pacing ( snorefest in the first half, "huh? huh?" in the middle, "This stuff is great" at the end ), weak plot ( "eh, what?" in the first half, "whoa, things are going too fast to digest the crap they are throwing out!" in the last few episodes" ) and other niggling details ( bad animation in last few episodes, too many similarities at the begining with other notable series, inconsistencies in the laws they set down, etc ) put it down.

What it has is however excellent production values and good directing. For music, it had excellent opening and ending numbers which is a minor point for consideration. Its composition and usage of orchestral BGMs ( to evoke emotions ) is very well done. Personally I feel that Fafner's OST is the best soundtrack for year 2004 animes ( again personally, I feel it is the best OST for all the animes so far ).

The directing is good because the directors are able to set up the scenes for emotions ( the way the scene is animated, the buildup ). It is possible to pass it off as "Well, it is only one emotion they are trying to make us feel, sadness all the way which of course is easier to do than for other emotions" and it is correct, but the work they have done in achieving it is admirable. Of course, again much of the work is helped by the excellent BGMs.

Besides those, the only thing I will say is good about the series is Tohmi Miya voiced by Marika Matsumoto. The character design and personality was interesting and given a very good role. The voice acting for the character was strong and fitted the character well, especially the angst in the character. Considering that it is her maiden debut for an anime, that is most worthy of attention, especially that her character is the only one that really screamed for attention ( all others were simply too common or just unappealing ).

So in all, personally, Soukyuu no Fafner just reaches the good level, its excellent qualities ( music, directing, just one excellent character ) bogged down by the things they could have avoided in the first place.

I did write a review that explores a bit more on this and it is in the review database Laughing So those that finished watching it should write a review on the series as well. Wink

About the 'yaoi'-ness, I believe it is what you choose to make of it. Personally I view their relationship as just very good friends, akin to the Victorian style friendship that people now keep making fun of as 'gay' in today's circle. I have seen many men ignoring threats from their spouses just so that they can go out partying with their buddies or to help out their buds whom they have grown up with over the years. Just as well, I have heard of girls who go out of their way to help out their bosom friends even throwing aside that romantic date with their boyfriends. Surely, one would sacrifice everything to save his best friend in life if it ever comes to that dangerous situation? Or is it that friendship itself is nothing, that it can never overcome the threat of death or the so-called 'love' perpetuated by current society?

Actually you're right Yebyosh. I was just caught up with the ending, when I had just woken and my higher brain functions were still loading, so my 'oooh, flashy' and 'aaw, color' centers were influencing me a little too much.

It was good in my opinion, but I've seen better.

well this anime is kinda good, it have the RahXephon, NGE and Gundam Seed element in it... but without so much headaches as the former 2! (no god-wannabe here...)

The terms used, well it is a bit vague... and also about "we" and "I" stuff and all of that, can give ur head a workout trying to figure it out Very Happy

OST was cool, the instrumental pieces was just superb, the OP music and sequence were well done, ED music was touching, cant say the same about the sequence though...

all in all, i will be rewatching this anime (and currently rewatching it!!) and that, to me personally, is kinda good
